Golden Eye looks great. I put a link to that file as an alternate on the N64 vertical list.

Like it. I just worry about the extremely vertical orientation of the cover art.  It's gonna be hard to do some of the more obscure games...

Alright, almost done with this one actually, which is why I've been a bit quiet. I've still got to get screenshots and arrange them and the back text, but I figured I was overdue for a preview ;D So, without further ado:

Perfect Dark! With the front based on the Japanese box... but blue instead of red because that's the more prominent color in the western releases' materials :P

That's where I'm just going to have to get more creative. ;D

I got some art you can use with:
Super Mario Kart
Zelda 1 & 2 NES
Yoshi's Island
Banjo Kazzoie
Majoras Mask
Ocarina Of Time
Super Mario Bros 1-2-3
Super Mario 64
Super Mario World
Mario Kart 64
Wave Race 64
Star Fox 64
Yoshi Story

And Probably More.
My inlays would make good covers too, Is there a template available for download? I may want to make one or two for fun.

Feel free to PM me with all the arts ;D

As for the template... I feel like it's not quite ready for public consumption yet. It's got some tweaks that need to be made all over the place; layers/folders that need to be named and/or color coded and/or locked; more company logos need to be added (at this point it's just Nintendo and Rare); controller and peripheral symbols; etc, etc. It's sort of hodge-podge right now, since I've been working out the details as I went along. I also want to put together designs in this style for Famicom, Master System, and Genesis/Mega Drive. I suppose working all that out should be my next focus after completing Perfect Dark.

... And yeesh, I should really remember to spell check covers before I post WIP images. "cloark yourself"

Okay, finally, Perfect Dark:

Also available: versions with the front art in the original red as in the Japanese release:

(It's the same link)

Now I can focus on the Genesis and Master system styles, which I've already started work on...

Aaaaaand here's what I've got going for the SEGA stuff...

I started out with the Genesis striped style, because I didn't grow up with Sega stuff and most of my exposure to the system was later on once they'd taken up that style. Heck, out of my Genesis games I own right now in the original cases, three are striped. The only one in the older grid layout is actually a Mega Drive game :D... And then I've got two that aren't in either format. Sega cases are sort of all over the place with their styles.

I went with the white "GENESIS" instead of the silver because, let's face it, it looks better. The SEGA in the upper right is intended to match the SEGA on the top of many of the original cases.

But, like wiggy, I thought it'd be better if the stripes continued across the spines when all set on the shelf. Instead of going to custom stripes at a 45 degree angle like his, though, I tried to keep the original angle and adjust the size of the stripes to fix it...

... I don't know if it works nearly as well.

Next, since I was going to have to do a grid design for the Master System anyway, I figured I might as well tackle the Genesis grid first:

Then I thought... "Maybe that logo would look better monochrome?"

Ooooh yeah, that's the stuff! The grid on these isn't an exact match for the original retail grids. Rather, it's designed to continue across the spines on the shelf and it's lined up vertically to "cut off" the banner on the front.

Next was Master System.

It's Master System. Simplicity incarnate. But, I figured I'd try one more thing... Master System cases that match the carts?

Eh, cool in theory, but I think we'll stick with the white grid.

Still have to vector up the controllers and such.

Well.... Thoughts, suggestions, other input?

i kinda like it.  i would imagine it would look great once you had a number of them done on a shelf.

for master system, i would go with the much later logo - matches genesis/megadrive much better:

Hey, it'd be nice if you posted these all in the OP.

That said, I'm still liking these.

Cool, I've never seen that logo before. Shouldn't be too hard to throw a version of it together...

Cool, I look forward to it! ;D

Hey, it'd be nice if you posted these all in the OP.

The Sega examples? I thought the OP was already sort of cluttered up with the Nintendo ones, which is why I sort of sectioned off the top for the links to the individual covers...

... And I just realized I typed "SERNIC" on the front and "SENIC" on the spines. ::)

So, here's my "short" to-do list before I can have the template ready...
  • Vectors for all the controllers and peripherals
    • NES, Famicom (more on that a few bullet points down), Master System, and Genesis/MD (including six-button) controllers
    • All the lightguns
    • Power pad, ROB, any other unique controllers I can think of that a game would need to mention
  • Add lots of publisher and developer logos
  • Cleanup and general user-friendly-ify the thing
  • Japanese and PAL systems (May publish a "beta" version of the template without these)
    • Famicom
    • Super Famicom
    • PAL SNES
    • PAL N64 (This one will be super easy)
    • Japanese N64? (These are all pretty different from each other, so I dunno)
    • PAL MegaDrive
    • Japanese MegaDrive

Awesome! If you want to send me your PSD or whatever when you're done, I can throw it in the template and finish it up.

And I figured since I've got four covers done now, I should get some pics up of them in the cases...

Keeping in mind that I've been using cheap Staples paper and my parents LaserJet printer, because that's what's available to me at the moment, and it results in the covers printing out way too dark/saturated...

Spines! Nice and lined up.

Fronts! Okay, I could have made more of an effort to make sure they were all lined up in the cases the same, but the point is clear enough.

More splayed out!

How about compared to the DVD cases they're so inspired by?

Spines again! They're comparable! ... Not a good angle, though. :-X

Fronts! That's the ticket! They're all pretty samey. ;D
