My wife and I want to see Wreck it Ralph, it looks good and Disney can't do wrong. (With THEATRICAL releases with DECENT cast) As far as the Disney Star Wars thing goes, my first thought of it was very bad. After a little while I realized that It probably wont be as bad as most people think. Disney does do the Pirates movies very well. And they have control of Marvel now too. |

disney animation rarely put out anything that's awful. there are better movies (meet the robinsons) and there are worse movies (tangled, bolt) but even the "bad" ones aren't entirely unwatchable. i really liked wreck-it ralph. the fan service to gamers was really well done and very subtle. |

Although, maybe I should take these reviews with a grain of salt, as I think most Disney releases (and most anything that Disney has their greasy mits in) are crap :( --- End quote --- cough cough* LIKE STAR WARS 7 ??? *cough cough* --- End quote --- God, that one is gonna be a total wild card. I liked Tron (I know, what the fuck is wrong with me), and the Marvel stuff has been pretty damned good for the most part (we won't even touch Ghost Rider). It's so hard to say what we're gonna get from Disney in regards to Star Wars. Prolly can't be much worse than the prequels though... --- Quote from: scaredtowake on November 05, 2012, 08:42:12 AM ---disney animation rarely put out anything that's awful. there are better movies (meet the robinsons) and there are worse movies (tangled, bolt) but even the "bad" ones aren't entirely unwatchable. i really liked wreck-it ralph. the fan service to gamers was really well done and very subtle. --- End quote --- This is very true. In fact, I can't think of any theatrical release animation that they've done which has been awful. I actually really liked Bolt. Buuuuut, I can't stand their 2D stuff. It's good for what it is, I just really do not like their tired-ass formula. Girl in peril, girl talks to animals, animals help girl get boy, evil is defeated, happily ever after. |

Since it may or may not be obvious I am a Star Wars fan ::) , I thought I'd briefly chime in on the Disney purchase and new movies announcement since we're talking about it here. If Pixar and Marvel are any indication, I think the best way to look at it is that Disney won't be doing much of anything to alter the way Star Wars will come out. They'll be doing a lot of branding and marketing and park expansions for sure, but when it comes to actually making the movies (at least for now) I think they are content to simply provide LucasFilm with the resources it needs to make these movies, but they are still LucasFilm's movies. Since George is stepping back but still acting as a creative consultant, there's a lot more freedom for who will write and direct them (which supposedly has already been decided behind the scenes). As a long-time fan of the series, I've always been intrigued by that sequel trilogy George talked about but then denied repeatedly once the prequels came out. From what I know prior to the announcement, I'm pretty certain that LucasFilm has always wanted to make this 3rd trilogy but acted like they wouldn't because even they didn't have the resources necessary to undertake that project. Also Kathleen Kennedey has a very very good track record, and there are many big fans of Star Wars, especially the Original Trilogy, in the industry that I think whoever was chosen to write and direct will do it with care and respect. A lot of fans, whether they loved or hated the prequels, agree that part of the disconnect between the two trilogies was that in the originals George partnered with others to write and direct the films, where in the prequels he pretty much ran the whole show (most likely the people working there wouldn't dare question something that the creator of Star Wars suggested). That's probably why my top two favorites are Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back. George is a very talented idea man, but when it comes to execution of things like dialogue and direction, that isn't his strong suit. With him in a consultant role, and with his story treatments as a general basis, it will be much more like production was on ESB and ROTJ. So I see this only as a very good thing. There's lots more I could say, but I'll leave that for another time. :P |

On a side note, I can recall many occasions where Lucas has said that, while he'd like to do a third trilogy, he just doesn't have it in him. The second trilogy probably shaved a good 10 years off of his life, and he's not getting any younger. I'm happy that he's willing to pass the torch and not take the franchise to his grave though. |
