Since we are for the most part gamers, I am sure most of us have sat about thinking up cool ideas for games....atleast I have. Here is one I have been sitting on for 10 years. I have notebooks dedicated to just jotting down ideas for this thing, scratching them out and replacing them with better ideas.
I wanted to learn how to seriously program, but never found a good place to start, so here it is...
It is set in a world called Cerpathika a mideval fantasy world, it just dealt with a rapture like event and the remaining people must rebuild civilization.
The game is an MMO, but there is no centralized storyline, and very few friendly Character NPCs. The players build the world, they have to build the houses, the towns, the castles.
Characters have no classes, you pick a profession. You dont want to adventure? There are rewards in farming and being a merchant. You want to be a knight? Go for it, maybe you can become King, or overthrow the established king. Carpenters are needed as well. Blacksmiths are always useful to make weapons. Say you are disgraced, you can retire from adventuring and take up one of these other trades, or train the next generation (noobs) should you desire...preferably in a place where no one knows your name.
The players also control the in game economy, different regions may have different economic principals. One region could be completely communistic, one capitalistic, and one may be just total anarchy, just depending on the player who rules the area.
What about villains smart guy? Well, there are...the players. The players can become dark lords and gather players as minions to ransack towns and kill people.
Magic will work on a reagent system, causing Mages and Wizards to have to work with farmers and adventurers to gather reagents....and there is something fun...experimentation with reagents to discover new spells...even one that can destroy the world.
Back to Kings, the king is the absolute ruler of an area, but he does have the ability to create a counsel of players to advise him. He can control the economy, his army, and the world if he is powerful enough. A region could band together and overthrow their monarch should they so desire. A king could also establish a religion and force people by royal mandate to follow it, or leave.
There are no rules to the game, just laws of the region.
I see it as less of a game, and more of a fantasy world simulation. A true experience of Role Playing. I see this aspect as being beneficial, as in regular games, players will blunder like idiots and get killed...this forces them to think and go "If we go into this war, we could loose everything we built".
Have you guys done the same, or am I alone here?
Deadpool:
i know that someday i will make my own game (not alone off course) i need a programmer for that.
lcvolt:
i have a good idea for banjo kazooie. NOT USING CARS, and collecting jiggies... collect, collect,COLLECT
mmm
i know it sounds stupid but also a "clay mario" in HD would be awesome. most of the necessary hardware and software is there to emulate that right? it would be rpg-ish like paper mario and the final boss would be NESTER, because he is jealous he never got into a decent game.
