Replied to PMzzzzzz...

--- Quote from: Azarkhel on November 15, 2012, 01:53:45 AM ---Beautiful work man, if I hadn't knocked one up for myself i'd snap one up for sure. To anyone not sure about grabbing one of these, the backlit LCD makes playing GBA games a real joy. The amount of detail in those games hidden by the shitty screens Nintendo originally used is staggering.

For real.  It's like night and day.  I've been playing the snot out of mine lately.  It just makes me giggle a little when I see it sitting there ;D

edit: Well, that was fast!  Red is gone!

Wiggy you are making me drool with these.  Any idea how much shipping to France would be on one of those GBA's?

I have a black one here that i broke the screen on when replacing the shell.  Bought a replacement screen before I knew there were 2 types of connector, and guess what, I needed the larger connector, but got the smaller one. Grrrr.  So in essence, I could replace the broken one with a lovely light up one......if the cost isn't prohibitive. (if you happen to have a spare screen there with a large connector i could take that off your hands at the same time.)

The "kit" would be exactly what you need.  This mod requires a new LCD regardless, so your broken screen is no issue :)  However it does require a fair amount of modification to the shell to make it all work.  The kit is normally $75 shipped for the kit within the US, and it looks like shipping to France would be 17 bucks. I normally figure $5 of the domestic price is for shipping, which makes the difference $12.  Call it $85 total and I'd be a happy camper ;D

problem is i don't own a soldering iron - and based on the fact i broke a screen just removing it from the old shell (damn sticky stuff), i don't trust my heavy handedness to perform the mod, so think i'm better off getting one of the pre-mods.

I was hoping i could hold off and get a premodded SNES in one of your new shell's from you at the same time, but seeing the pics of these makes me want it NOW! lol.  ;D

Here's the thing, I don't know how long it'll be before the SNES shell thing is feasible, and I'm about 99% sure at this point that I'll be doing an SNS-001 shell instead of an SNS-101.  Based on the cost of tooling, parts, and quantity of parts required per order, I think the only way to make it viable would be to go with the 001 since A) there is a FAR larger user base, and B) there is actually a good "need" for SNS-001 shells since so many have severe yellowing and damage due to the plastic becoming far more brittle as a result of such.

Buuuuuut, I am planning on purchasing a small rapid prototype machine this coming year, so I will be able to produce the 101 shell in a more limited quantity on a special order basis for folks that really want one. They won't be cheap, but they will be quite exclusive, which will afford me the opportunity to make each one as unique as the customer wants ;D

If you're really itching for a modded GBA right now, the price for intl shipping should be just about the same since the entire package still weighs less than 1lb. So figure on of these remaining two would run ya' $135 :)
