Hey,

Im not sure if this is an allowed topic but Im just looking for some info and advice on what to go for, I am not asking where to buy anything.

I guess im looking for the common ones, Secret of Mana 2, Terranigma, Zelda Parallel, Bahamuts Lagoon.
For now at least, those are the only ones that come to mind. So at like $50 a pop usually it gets up there in price.

So looking for a cheaper alternative, I came across the PowerPak for the SNES, which seems cheaper than buying all the repos I want. Plus I would have the ability to add games later. It doesnt support every game, but looking through the list I dont see many I would want to play that I cant get an original cart for.

I am a reproduction noob if you cant tell, so I guess my questions are : would there be a difference really between a reproduction cart and this PowerPak? Has anyone here ever used it and is it pretty reliable? and finally is there a game in that not compatible list that would be a deal breaker for all you?

Any advice would be great.

The question is, do you want something you can display and play like a regular game, or would you rather have a cashe of games you can just leave in your system all the time, never having to take it out.

Asking OK.

Answering OK too so:

I don't have this, but few  around here have.
They seem to love it.
I personally like to have actual carts or just play the roms on PC with real pad, and think Power Pak is pointless inbetween compromise.
On other hand I wouldn't mind owning one to see if game would run on actual SNES so I could then have it put to cart, and will probably get one eventually.

Main problem is the lack of support for FX and FX2 chips.
I know two great hacks of Yoshi's Island that I would like to play on real SNES.

There is also everdrive that does the same (better?)

There is one even better one that is harder to get, just can't remember the name, and if I understand they are trying to get FX chip combatibility too.

Yep that was the one, thanx.
What's the latest on that?

I've been hunting for one of those for months now with no luck :(

I hope they do actually make more. Something tells me that it's gone at this point.

So if I was gonna go for one you guys would say the SD2SNES is the better of the two? and IF i managed to find one I wouldnt need to worry about compatibility issues? like the FX chip?

I dont really mind having games that didnt come over to North America on one cart. I think it would even be nice to throw games that did come over on it before I buy them and find out I dislike them, especially if its a costly game.

I don't have a PowerPak (or similar item for any home console), and I don't much see much point in getting one.

I have mixed opinions of emulation as well, since I used it and abused it back in the early to mid 00's.

On the one hand, it can be a great tool to discover and try games you might otherwise never know about, especially ones that weren't released in your region. Double especially if it needed a fan translation to be played.

On the other hand, it can easily devolve into outright piracy if you don't control yourself.

The PowerPak (and similar) has these same advantages and problems, plus costing money and not supporting all of the library.

Personally I would go the repro route, there's only a couple of games I want that didn't get an english release (or released at all), so it'd end up costing me about the same ammount of money.
What I really need is an affordable GB flashcart...

Yeah, demand is quite high, and supply is quite low!

I was watching it like a hawk for a while, but realized that I didn't want enough non-US games to justify buying one.

The only games I really want that's non-standard/fan translated are Secret of Mana 2 & Starfox 2.

Buying the above games as repro carts cost less than the SD2SNES, less hassle to acquire, and way more displayable!

And does Starfox 2 even run properly SD2SNES.

I mean is it slow like stadart Starfox 2 with FX chip or smooth like Doom/Winter Gold version with FX 2 chip.

Does anyone know of a gameboy flashcart that is still sold? I'm trying to save my gameboy camera pictures/saves. That is all that I will use it for!

And speaking of repos..... Wouldn't a Sailormoon Another Story repo be awesome. In a clear pink snes shell. Mannnnnnnnnnn, I can't find anything on the internet though, it seems that fan translation won't play properly on a repo.
