I think we are heading towards the digital only era at speed.  I have had quite a few recent PS3 titles, and all my Vita titles come without manual.  I think that getting people used to not getting much inside the case is their 1st step towards digital only.  I will still want the new generation systems, but will have absolutely no problem with having a hacked machine at the point they stop giving me a tangible product.

Yep, no hard copy of game, no case & no manual -> Quality same as on pirated games -> Not worth getting legit games.

I for one will be buying a Wii U at launch.  I had attempted to pre-order it, about two days after it was avalable for pre-order, but at my local GameStop they were completly out of avalable units.
I've never bought a Microsoft or Sony console at launch, never will since most the games on either console are not interesting to me, I traded two PSP's for my 360.
There is just a whole lot of greatness going on with the Wii U.
I've already pre-ordered Zombi U!

So far only game that interest me are New Super Mari bros U and future Zelda game... so not in any hurry on getting Wii U at the moment.

I agree with you in that all 3 companies are trying to push digital downloads but I don't think that many people will really adapt well to it.  As it stands there really is no "benefit" to downloading a full game compared to buying a tangible copy.  Price being one of them and another major one is that a single download will be limited to the gamer tag and most likely not playable anywhere else as compared to an actual disc.

Then I can only imagine how well people with monthly caps or slow download speeds will handle d/ling 8+ gigs of data for a single game.

Not to say that it can't and won't be implemented...but there have to be a lot of changes in the way it'll be handled to be a success.

What about Nintendo Land? Pikmin 3? Zombi U? I mean, I don't normally see strong line ups, the Wii U's is impressive.

I don't see Nintendo switching to digital only any time soon.  I would freaking hate that, caseless game collection.....*shudders*

Nobody will in the next generation.  They can't.  There are just too many customers that won't have ANY access to games if they were to do that, and they obviously don't want to lose customers.

Haven't checked those yet, but probably not to my taste.

I've already told myself that I won't be getting the next-gen consoles.  DRM and digital games are already making me sick, I don't need even more of it.  There's more than enough games for the systems I already own to keep me satisfied for well into the forseeable future (and for my potential kids!).  I MIGHT consider the Wii U if only for the 3D Zelda and Mario games.

The more we talk about it, the more I want a wiiU. Just for the purpose of continuing my Wii games on the newer console. That would be neat. I'll wait a bit at first. But as for PS3, I think it will have a similar lifespan as he PS2. Maybe not as strong, but it will hang around for awhile. Final Fantasy 14 is about to come out and that alone will extend the life because it is a MMO FF game.

This go-round, I'm going to buy the games that *interest me as soon as they come out, and pre-order the ones with cool pre-order bonuses.

I'll buy the Consoles and Handhelds only after they get a nice price drop, and a hardware revision, a few years down the line, but only for the ones I have purchased games for.

I Really Wish I had done this during the current gen, because I only have:
Two Wii-Exclusive Games,
Two PS3-Exclusive Games,
Three 360-Exclusive games.

*JRPGs (including Ys), some Zeldas, some of the Marios, some Sonics, some Metroids, and so on.
Forgot to mention Castlevania (SotN Style) games, (however, it does have many similarities to the early Metroid games) but I'm not sure if they'll be making any more like that; maybe for Vita and/or 3DS?

I'm not pre-ordering or getting a WiiU at launch, can't afford it and there's only 2 games I'd want for it, also you can pretty much guarentee they'll release one with 10x the storage in 6 months time!
I'm getting one around this time next year though!

I am still considering getting a Wii U, maybe after a price drop. I do not mind a lot of DRM...some of it is passable...this coming from someone who is pretty much a lifelong PC gamer....you think DRM is shit? Try using a code card with text so faint you have to sit on the surface of the sun to type in a random letter or number in order to get past copy protection...or dealing with CD-Keys. That was hell...especially if you lost the code card or the CD-Key.

QFT.  I lost my Lord of Destruction CD Key back in the day and now my CD is all but useless.

I remember buying a copy of Sim City 4 brand new and there was no code with it. I took it back to the store and they didn't believe me that it wasn't in there. It took 30 minutes of me being pissed as hell that they treated me like a liar before I got my money back and went elsewhere.

They wanted to give me a credit since they didn't have a replacement. I was like "fuck that, I want this game. I'm not interested in waiting for you to be restocked especially after you treated me like a theif. I'll take my money elsewhere!"

I can't stand CD key bullshit. Luckily Sim City 2/3/4 are literally the only games that I've ever purchased for the PC.

I plan to get a Wii U probably early next year. Maybe later. Not until there's more than a few games I want for it.

how do you lose cd keys?, all of the pc games ive bought had the key on the back of the manual. keep the manual in the case along with the cd, and you dont have a problem...
