Removing Fussy NES Screws
(1/3) > >>
laurenhiya21:
I got a NES recently and I kind of want to clean it... It does work so it's not really a required cleaning, but I can see some unknown brown goop in there which will annoy me to no end until I clean it.
So the first few screws came out all right, one of them needed some GooGone to get out (stupid brown stuff again)
However, the last screw just won't come out ._. It looks like more of the brown goop is around and maybe in the screw
It seems like I can't even get the screwdriver in there properly, so it won't even budge ._. I've already looked up how to unscrew tough screws, but those all assume that you can actually reach the screw ><;

Help?
Arseen:
Can you use something thin and sharp to scratch the groove clean, like a needle?
palmer6strings:
Most tool stores have pick sets you can buy that arn't that expensive. They have saved me many times. that would help scratch that crap off the screw no problem.
wiggy:
Spray a little Windex in the hole and let it sit for 10 minutes.  Then take a Q-tip and scrub it out.  If you're still having a hard time with a philips screwdriver after that, then switch to a similarly sized flat driver.  That works for me about 90% of the time when a stubborn philips screw won't budge.

Man, this screw is really bothersome >:l

First tried the needle, didn't seem to do much.
Then I tried the Windex thing (although I only had just normal window cleaner, hope that doesn't make a difference...) and it still didn't budge *shake fist*
Now, I'm not using a Phillips screwdriver, but since it worked with the other ones, I would think that it wouldn't be a problem...
I did try a flat screwdriver as well, but I think mine was a little too big... not sure (hard to see in there ><; )

Either way, I might have to try to go to Home Depot sometime this week... ><;
But thanks for the advice! I'll keep at it >< (I just hope this won't become a permanent screw or something DX)
