Yeah, that's totally an option, Wiggs, and you're right about not needing a different piece of hardware, but I also figure that if I do want a Wii for homebrewing, then why not get one that's different from what I currently have? Variety is the spice of life my friend! That, and cumin!

Hey, like I said, I know my sucker-for-anything-Nintendo self is gonna buy one too ;D

My plan is once original wiis drop to about $20-30 a pop i'll buy one for each room in my house.
Having a machine for netflix and homebrew would be a good set up for guests.  ;D

I've got a few busted Xboxes that are currently doing that job, but the form factor of the Wii is WAAAAAY more appealing.  I may have to follow your lead on this one :)

Well, so much for the homebrew idea.

I suppose this thing will be extremely collectible in the future, because no one will buy it since it can't really do anything!

Does it have USB?  If so, someone will hack that shit.  NOTHING is unhackable ;)

Ooo good question, Wiggy. I have no idea if it has USB or not. I will watch out for that.

Homebrew wii sounds interesting, I still have the Wii store display I need to get a console for, but can get a plain wii for like 40$ these days.

As far as the WiiU, had it since launch, played it like 30 minutes however spent a few hours updating everything, worse than PS3 now with updates on everything

I had the opportunity to get both of our displays at work but tgey didny stay in good condition. Ours were in the front  window in direct sunlight for ~6 years. It wss grossly yellow snd falling apart. I tried convincing the manager in the mall to give me his but no dice. His were nice and white too.

One of my local pawn shops had the wii @ $30 for the holidays. They havw a poor return policy though.

On another note, the European launch was on November 30th. Poland, as always, gets a giant, spiky, metal pole up our buttholes by getting a later launch (December 10th) and much higher prices. The basic set will be 1399.99 PLN (~450 USD) and the premium set will be 1699.99 PLN (~540 USD).

I really want to like Nintendo, but the way they treat Poland really isn't helping...

Oh wow, that's outrageous!! I would not be buying it for that price.

It better have gold on the PCB for that price.

That's how it is when there is no Nintendo Poland. There is Microsoft Poland, and there is Sony Poland. So why the hell not Nintendo? There's at least an official distributor - Stadlbauer (a freakin' Austrian toy company) - which is better than in the 80s and 90s, when there was none.

Also here's a fun little excerpt (translated) from the Wii FAQ on the "official" Polish site:
Quote
The Nintendo Wii can be connected to the internet via a wireless router or a special Wii LAN adapter. It is recommended to change your location to Ireland.
So they're basically saying "f*ck you, but here's a clean condom".

And another fun fact: No Wii, DS or 3DS comes with a Polish language option (as opposed to the Xbox or PS3). As well as no games on Nintendo consoles have a Polish language option (as opposed to the Xbox, PS3). Well, no I lied - there was exactly 1 (one) game (that I remember) on the GBA that had a Polish language option - Hugo: The Evil Mirror. So yeah, Nintendo likes to f*ck Poland with a giant, spiky, metal pole every chance they get.
[/RANT]

Sorry for the rant, and thank you for listening, just had to get it off my chest...

I don't want to make excuses for Nintendo and be "that guy" but you have to remember Microsoft and Sony are MUCH bigger corporations than Nintendo as a company. Video game consoles are only one of the many, many things that Microsoft and Sony do, while it's virtually the only thing that Nintendo does.

If Nintendo were a large multi-industry company like the other two, I'm sure there'd be a Nintendo of Poland, but being as it is, they have to focus their resources and sales on the countries where they'll most likely turn the biggest profit based solely on video games. If Nintendo made a computer operating system, laptops, TV's, licensed MP3 players, and was a major music publishing conglomerate, then I'm sure they'd have a national headquarters in Poland and then you'd have access to that stuff. ;)

I always find it hilarious when people call Nintendo the "Big N" like they're some big bad corporation when they're the smallest of the big three by far. :D I now that doesn't make the prices suck any less for you, but I think that at least gives a reason, haha.
I'm looking for vol. 2, 4, and 5 of the Orchestral Game Music Concert CDs. I'll pay well if it's authentic and doesn't skip. :)

I'm actually surprised that Nintendo hasn't tried to partner with Apple/Mac. I think that would help them out sooooo much with sales and future promotions.

I'm not to sure what Sony has in these terms, but I know Microsoft/XBox has thier media player, (which has some awesome home network settings if you get it all figured out correctly.), and on top of that Zune...

Of coarse they all have Netflix, but that's no real big deal since you can now watch Netflix on your kitchen fridge now a days.

Like Tbone said, not to be that guy, but it prolly has little to do with Nintendo themselves and more to do with distribution costs and whatnot that are out of their hands.  There's no reason for them to artificially inflate prices for you guys.  Not that it makes the situation any better, but I REALLY doubt Nintendo is really jacking up prices for no reason.

LOL, sigworthy!

I'm about to go patent a Netflix/Redbox fridge, be right back...
