They're also the only ones to fatten their consoles up after launch, DSi XL and 3DS XL ;)

I may buy the Wii Mini for the controller.
I think Wiimotes are $50, and Nunchucks are $20
So $70 controllers and the rest is $30.

Hmm. Well it's not really of interest to me, but I bet the homebrew community already sees some potential there.

Agreed. I never installed homebrew on my Wii, but if I ever wanted to conveniently emulate some of my old Nintendo games, I would find this little guy appealing.

Since it is severely handicapped in several areas (online being the most notable), I really don't think it will sell all that well, which would likely make it a collector's item. I've always enjoyed the top loading NES and the SNES mini. I might take the plunge on this.

I had 2 Wiis - a white one and later a black one. I installed Homebrew on the white one and there were some pretty impressive things in the works at the time. I remember the SNES emulator had Wii Remote support in place of the Super Scope, so I could play Yoshi Safari on my flat screen tv. I also remember a Sega Saturn emulator in the works. The system later bricked (possibly because of homebrew), so I replaced it with a black one. But that was several years ago. I'd bet that there's some pretty cool homebrew stuff now.

The main problem is that without online support you couldn't get to the "Homebrew Channel" to get new stuff.

Oh no? Well that would be unfortunate. Could you not load the programs on an SD card and copy them onto the Wii?

I've never used the web on my soft-modded Wii. Everything is loaded via jump drive or SD card for me. Don't see why that couldn't continue.

Still, I don't see why this crippled Wii would be of any more interest to the hacker community than the normal Wii ???

I guess you do not have to worry about updates, but I think some games might have them on disc.

I have the Homebrew channel too, the Homebrew browser does make loading apps on easier, but is not necessary.

I don't know about the hacker community, but I would personally rather use a small, limited Wii to commit to homebrewin'. My original Wii is fully of VC games and important save files which I do not want to risk compromising. (Feel free to call me crazy)

So why not just grab another normal Wii then?  They can be had for next to nothing.  I just don't see the need for a different piece of hardware to do what can already be done.  I want one as well, but just for collecting purposes.  It'll never get used.

Yeah, that's totally an option, Wiggs, and you're right about not needing a different piece of hardware, but I also figure that if I do want a Wii for homebrewing, then why not get one that's different from what I currently have? Variety is the spice of life my friend! That, and cumin!

My plan is once original wiis drop to about $20-30 a pop i'll buy one for each room in my house.
Having a machine for netflix and homebrew would be a good set up for guests.  ;D
