At the Target where I work, in Columbus, OH, we had 32 Basic sets and 16 Deluxe sets in stock on launch day. I work the night shift, and when I got to work at 11 PM on Saturday night, we had two people waiting in line outside the store. By 6 AM Sunday morning, that number had grown to four people. I got off at 8 AM, when the store opened, and noticed that we had, maybe, 8-10 people in a line at the electronics department buying their systems. I walked outside to scrape the ice off my car, and noticed someone pull up, park quickly, and dash inside the store. He looked like a college kid, so I assumed he was there right when we opened to get a system.
As of this morning, Tuesday the 20th, we still had 6 Baisc sets and 2 Deluxe sets in stock. I thought about getting one to list on eBay, but I figured that, since we didn't even sell out of our stock after two full days of release, demand must not be that high.
I honestly and truly had no idea when the system was coming out! To me, it seems like Nintendo did a terrible job of promoting it, since I work in and around the electronics department, and aside from the demo unit we got a few weeks back, I didn't know the system was getting released until the night of. No posters, no pamphlets with a release date.
I hope it does well, but where I live, the demand is surprisingly low.
