Howdy Ya’ll,

At long last, I have finally finished my latest batch of Custom NES Consoles.  Also did a few GameBoys and a Super Nintendo as well this time.  Sadly, almost all the proceeds from these will be going to help my Brother out of a financial jam, so these will probably be the last ones I do for some time as I won’t have much left over to reinvest in others.

All available consoles are up for auction on eBay right now.  Quick preview pics can be seen below, with more detailed images within the listings.  Here’s a link to my eBay seller page if anyone happens to be interested in either bidding or just taking a gander at the designs.

Wow, what kind of paint do you use?

Typically, I use rattle cans, mainly Krylon Fusion (though the lime green Metroid one was done with Valspar Plastic Paint - which is nice, but very limited colors available - at least in my area - and has a tougher to use spray nozzle).  I don't have a great deal of decent paint options in my area and after trying most of them, found that the Fusion offers the best combination of price, durability, and vibrancy of color.  Some people don't care for the way it comes out as it doesn't really give a shinny, super smooth finish all the time (I actually prefer the slightly duller look myself, so that's what I usually do on custom projects), but I've alway had pretty good luck with it.  Except for the yellow.  For some reason, everytime I've used the yellow, it's been thin and runny.  Very hard to work with.  I don't usually use a primer with it as I've found it doesn't seem to make much of a difference whether you do or not.  Instead, I lay down a thin, but fullly covered layer of color, which sort of acts like a primer.  After it dries for a week, it gets another, thicker layer of color and then a clear coat.  I would advise anyone NOT to use the Krylon Fusion Clear Coat though.  I don't care for it at all.  I use a normal Krylon clear coating which seems to work well.  just be careful not to layer it on too thick or fast.

And honestly, I've found that the most important part to any custom paint job is the pre-painting preparation.  Make sure you wash all pieces to be painted thoroughly and be sure that they're completely dry before actually painting.  Pre-Painting prep solvent helps as well.

If you're interested in your own paint projects and would like a how to guide, check out Wiggy's blog.  He's got an excellent step-by-step guide all about painting plastics that I've found to be very helpful.

I sure wish I knew about these before buying my NES. Granted, I'd be paying $30 more for your paint job and and your controller, and not get the extra games it brought, but I still would have considered it. I love that second Mega Man console especially. Now I'm kinda wishing I could just commission a controller out of you. Alas, I cannot. Still, these look magnificent.

Thank You.  I appreciate the compliment.

Just throwing it out there... but I'd definately consider doing a deal outside of eBay for a fellow TCP member if you were interested in one of the consoles I have available (though, the white Mega Man one did already sell).  Can always keep the games you got with the other system and re-sell the console if you wanted one of the ones I have for sale.  Just a thought.   :)

Will you ever go through the process of how you did these great paintjobs? I would love to do this myself one day.

Got two systems left if anyone's interested.  One is live on eBay now (the Metroid one will be up later tonight)

Had lots of watchers, but no bids on these two remaining consoles, so decided to relist them.  They'll be up on eBay starting at 10:30pm (eastern time) tomorrow (Thursday) night and will be priced about as low as I can price them.  Happy to talk trades if anyone from TCP may be interested as well.  Just PM me to discuss details.
