The argument that M-rated games make any console more "grown-up" is self defeating as M-rated games are often laughably puerile.

Really guys "childish"? This is 1 of many reasons I requested the deletion of this thread. Because most of the people's different opinions have a backhanded compliment/snide remark in it on this thread somewhere and it pisses me off when people do that. I don't mind other peoples opinions at all, but when someone puts a backhanded compliment/snide remark in their reply, that's going out of line right there. Here's an example of what I mean: You: "How was your day?", Friend: "Good, you?", You: " Why the hell would I care how your days was?". Also, how the deuce are M-rated games on any system childish, or puerile, as Retro Deckades puts it?

If you wanna get technical, no every system does not have M-rated games or ratings for that matter. Because the ESRB; which produces rating on games wasn't created until 1994 (near the end of the 4th generation of consoles, and a year after the 5th generation of consoles). So, video games from 1993 (start of the 5th generation of consoles)-1972 (the dawn of video games), never had ratings, much less M-ratings. This is where your statement isn't entirely true. Have a nice day. ;D

I mean no ill will, Ace. There may be a misunderstanding here. It's just my perception that M-rated games often contain elements that are far from what someone might call "mature". Ironically, you have to be dubbed "mature" to experience them, even though their content can be ridiculously immature. Here's an example: God of War. It's an M-rated game, but it's goes completely over the top with it's violence and gore to the point where it is laughable. What is so mature about that? That's exactly the type of stuff teenagers fantasize about and clamour for. Another example would be "No More Heroes", where just about everything is over the top. For a game that's rated "M", it would probably be most enjoyed by a younger demographic.

My point is not that these games are bad (indeed, many are quite fun), but that there's irony in designating games as "mature" or "for grown-ups" when you consider their content. This certainly doesn't apply to all M-rated titles, but a bulk of them would probably fall into this category. One of the reasons that I enjoy M-rated games is because they allow me to be immature, whether I'm laughing at a crude joke, or jumping out of my seat because a scary monster just crashed through the window.

It's already been said, but I believe that people simply need to enjoy the games that they like to play, and if their own prejudices prevent them from experiencing great games on any system that they perceive as "for kids", that's unfortunate for them, especially since the games that they play on other systems might be far more childish -- they just don't realize it.

Ugh mixed messages!!!

The "have a nice day" was a slap in the face how I read it.  It wasn't a "Hey Shoothim! Have a nice day!".  It was "here is my comment to something that I just want to sound smart on because you said "every game" and I know what you mean but I just want to sound like an idiot, and oh yeah, have a nice day.  So you don't like people placing backhanded compliment/snide remark in their reply, but you do it every time you post.  Eevveerryy ttiimmee.  Don't say that I giving you a snide comment, I am replying to your dick of the week comment: "Have a nice day. ;D"

Fact is a system is a system.  The system is "seen" as a childish system.  IMO, childish system = a joke system.  A system that doesn't really has no impact if a game is released.  With 17,000 Brain Quests or Pokemon variations, there is not very many good games for it.  THERE ARE SOME GOOD GAMES, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO MAKE ME CARE ABOUT IT.  Now on the other hand, little kids can't get enough of it.  I would rather be playing something that gives me achievements/trophies.

Will I ever hack a PS3?  Maybe in 10 years or so.
Will I ever hack a Wii?: Soft-modded it the first day I bought it.

PS3 I know I will like the games I play.  Wii, not so much.  There are too many variations and I feel I have to try the games out first.  From the 150+ games on my HDD, I only have ~12 Wii games...  If i like the game, I will pay the money to support the developers, but if the game is crap, and it usually is... then Hell no would I be paying $50 for something I won't ever touch again.

You are stating that the system is a childish system, which is incorrect.  It's a serious system, with really childish games.  They could have done really well with it, but it's Nintendo.  The system was hacked within months, and they still haven't cared to patch it.  Sony on the other hand, anytime there is a mention of a potential exploit, they do a system update.  And Xbox?  Microsoft bans your gamer-tag.  It's not that the system is a childish system, but the company sure does try to keep up with the big boys.

I'm sure you don't man. i kinda jump to conclusions sometimes though, and I am a bit of a hypocrite sometimes. I swear I'm becoming more like my dad: who has anger problems like me, every day. Sometimes even the slightest wrong word or phrase will set me off; kinda how it does with my dad.

At least you're cognizant of it, which means you can change (if you want to).

Trust me wiggy, I do not want to end up like my dad. I'm trying to change, but there's just to much estrogen (3 sister, and my mom) in the house and not enough testosterone (me and my dad).

Zoloft FTW!

Seriously though, I used to have pretty violent mood swings. Zoloft really levels me out.
