No, I'm kidding.

You might be kidding, but you also might be right.  I had the same as problem number 2 after a rebuild on a vista machine.  Constant blue screen of death, even when it was sitting idle. I was tearing my hair out, as there didn't seem to be anything wrong with the build.  I even switched out all the memory sticks and graphics card to trouble shoot it. Upgrade to windows 7, problem gone.

Problem 1 definitely the router -  highly recommend netgear routers.  Some of my friends prefer Linksys, but I prefer the look of netgear, and have had (mostly) good experiences with them.

Yay, finally something I know about. That said, I could get into a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo but short and sweet is, your router is breathing it's last life.

Also, as others said, Vista sucks and have been known to have many issues with routers. Don't even get me started one people who have 2wire routers lol.

Depending on your next router purchase ( I currently use a Cisco/Linksys wireless N, Big Lots 20$) install the packed in software, set up your settings, then completely uninstall that crap. A lot of times I go to fix networking issues it's the software messing things up, especially if it's auto updating or has its own pain in the azz firewall settings.

Solution 1: Get a new router.

Solution 2: Run ChkDisk on the main boot drive, the disk could be failing. If that checks out, then install a new OS.

For the second problem, check to see if there are any updates for your BIOS. I once had one out of date that would throw BSOD at my constantly.
