Help! Web Domain regestering question.

Is it possible to register a domain name without hosting anything? I want secure a web address for future use, but don't have anything to post yet, and don't want to pay monthly fees. I know the domain is not used. I may link it to my Tumblr account if it is possible to remove it in the future.

Any tips?

Dunno exactly, but I know I've secured domain names and paid a monthly fee via GoDaddy.   So you can do so without actually hosting anything.

Just for the sake of completion, there's no way to register a domain without paying. You can choose not to host things, but you do need to pay for the name.

If you register a domain, that is all you are paying for - there are no hosting or email requirements whatsoever.  I used to work for a registrar.
