Looking for Saturn parts? YOU'RE IN LUCK! I have a broken North American Model 2 from years ago when I was stupid and attempted to mod it before I even knew how to solder. The CD drive is toast, but the rest of it works. I've never listed it in any sales thread because I figured nobody would ever be interested. So yeah, if you're interested, I'm not really looking to sell it for a profit, just more to get rid of it.

Well I was only looking for the two items mentioned in the original post, while they're more of accessories, Id consider the chip a part because it has to be soldered in.

I would actually be interested in your Saturn if I wasn't broke at the moment. I'm actually more than likely getting laid off in the next week. Trying to get a mod chip on the cheap so I'll have some good RPGs to play whilst being unemployed.

(my job only hires as seasonal, Ive actually been employed there far longer than most anyone else this time around. If I get laid off they'll hire me back in a month or two when they get new contracts)

Well Wiggy, I hope your contact gets back to us soon.
Hate to sound impatient but I just got a quote from console goods.

I could get a Saturn AND a Dreamcast chip shipped for about the same price as getting the Saturn chip from racketboy.
Didn't even realize they had Dreamcast chips. I couldn't find any at all last time I was looking for them.

The only thing stopping me is reading some mixed reviews about consolegoods' chip and their customer service.

I've got an extra saturn that works but doesn't work. The a/v out is a little screwed up so the picture is all funky but it works and plays games fine. If that helps any...

I was kinda hopeing that later I could get someone to mod it/fix it for personal use. Mainly so I could play casltevania SOTN for the levels they NEVER RELEASED ON ANOTHER PORT.... but I don't see it happening.

Yeah, I was hoping so too :( I have extra Saturns, and it would be nice to mod and sell them. I'm pretty sure the mod would bump the value nicely.

What does the DC mod do?  The DC can do pretty much everything without a mod chip, so it seems sorta pointless to have a chip for one :/

I might be able to fix that Saturn for ya. Might just be loose solder points, and if not, I've got extra boards that I could just swap out. Lemme know if you're interested and we can talk turkey.

Didn't even notice that LOL!

Anyway, Panzer Dragoon Saga is the king of RPGs on the Saturn. Dragon Force is awesome, but more of a Strategy game with a lot of RPG mixed in. Shining Force 3, Shining Wisdom, & Albert Odyssey are all solid too.

here's a comprehensive list of US-released RPGs:

Albert Odyssey
Blazing Heroes (also released first as Mystaria, it's the same game)
Dark Savior
Dragon Force
The Legend of Oasis
Magic Knight Rayearth
Panzer Dragoon Saga
Shining Force III
Shining the Holy Ark
Shining Wisdom
Virtual Hydlide

all of those are excellent, except for Virtual Hydlide, which is pretty much unplayable.  Blazing Heroes/Mystaria is tolerable, but nothing super special.

the US version of Shining Force III is actually SFIII: Scenario 1.  the other two scenarios were released in japan, and i THINK both of them have been translation-patched, but i could be wrong.  I know Scenario 2 got finished.  but, really, as far as translation patches go, that's about all that's available for the poor saturn.

as for good Japanese RPGs (you can find translation guides on GameFAQs, typically), these are some of my personal favorites in terms of presentation/ease of understanding:
Tengai Makyou IV: The Apocalypse
Princess Crown (predecessor to Odin Sphere/Muramasa, great title)
Shiroki Majo: Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of Heroes 3)
Wachenroder
Arcana Strikes
Grandia
Black/Matrix
Devicereign
Madou Monogatari
Terra Phantastica

the saturn is an excellent system full of amazing titles.  it's also hella expensive to collect for, so if you're planning on acquiring some of the best games quickly, be prepared.  i used to collect for the saturn, and when i finally gave up on it and sold my collection, i made a pretty penny, but i don't think i'll ever get to the level that i was at ever again.  *sigh*

Oasis is way more adventure than RPG though. I love it, but it's about 95% Zelda, and 5% RPG.

C'mon now scaredtowake no need for the mocking,
I  knew about Shining force III translation patches, Just wondered if there were any others patched =P

Thanks for the lists' guys. I pretty much got the Saturn for Panzer Dragoon, so any of those recommendations are welcome.

Pretty much the same as the Saturn chip. Put CD-R game in, it works like a OEM disc. No swapping or boot discs or other nonsense.

Ended up just going ahead and buying the two from consolegoods.

I would appreciate it if you keep updated If the guy on CAG gets back to you though. Wouldn't mind having a spare just in case ;)

Hopefully I don't get laid off and I can afford to buy the actual games at some point soon. I really don't like pirating backups.

On the other hand, I really don't like disc based games, or paying more than original MSRP  =P

------------
This thread did help me out though. Paid $25 vs. $35 for the action replay, and got two mod chips for the price of one from racket boy. So I am pretty pleased.

No swapping with DC discs either.  Most ROMs are already patched at this point.  Put 'em in and power up, that's it ;D

Well Wiggy, its nice you tell me that not an hour after ordering a chip =P
I'm not worried about it though. I'm getting pretty used to being broke ;P

It's been a while since I messed with DC and it was a impulse buy.

Now if i can just get a battery mod for my nomad working. lol.
Got its LCD swapped, but that's kind pointless with being tethered to the wall. Might as well just play the genesis.
(think the battery I was using was just a dud. It cant seem to power the Nomad & LCD at the same time. get sound, screen flickers. Works great plugged in)

Well I was trying to tell you 2 hours ago! :P

It's still not a bad purchase, and it sounds like you got a really good price anyway :)

Good luck with the Nomad.  Would love to tackle one of those at some point.

Yeeea that was me going "holy crap a genesis portable!" and drunkenly bidding. -_-
Remember. Friends don't let friends on eBay drunk!
Will be great if I can get the battery pack working though.
