Wiggy! Make a Paper and Printing topic!

Like many noobs here, I have searched the forums for advice on what kind of paper to obtain for home printing. I gleaned the obvious facts (semigloss, not too thin, must be larger than Letter size so Legal or A4) but really couldn't find good specific reccomendations. There was a lot of "I use this and it's fine", but no in-depth, informed-sounding reviews or suggestions.

Then Wiggy busted out a topic where he showed in-depth knowledge of printing and color reproduction. We're talking pointing out bleeds and improper tints, hues of green in a gray I couldn't even discern myself. That's what I want!

So yeah, Wiggy, I already asked for your advice in that thread and you said you should make a Paper topic, but I don't see one yet. How about it? My cases have been naked on the shelf for weeks, it's time to fix that.

I'm still having problems picking which size paper to use..All I come across is 8.5 X 11 ...is that even legal size paper? will it work for a dvd case?

-  with high white/brightness on it. Usually helps to get one better suited for your type or printer whether be laser or ink jet (95 + brightness)
- Get a good quality, something that would be good for color prints rather than your plain copy paper

Sizing

Most all covers on this site are ready to go using the size stated when you download it. So DVD will fit DVD and UGC will fit UGC as well as DS/Jewel cases etc. The only thing you would do is then cut the excess paper out but its already to size and scale.

Lastly

Just make sure when your printing them that you have it selected to print on the right paper size, that it is at 100% scale and you have better quality print options if it is not defaulted.

You'll definitely want 8.5 x 14 (legal size) size paper for DVD or game case covers.  You'll also want a good thickness to the paper, something 150gsm or more.  You don't really need gloss or even semi-gloss paper as the clear film on the outside of DVD cases or UGCs offers a nice glossy shine once the cover is in place.  Unfortunately, finding those traits in a single paper can be difficult.  However, I did recently try out some from Red River Paper and must say that I am highly impressed and frankly, will be using it for all future cover needs.  It's Red River 50lb Premium Matte Double Sided 8.5x14...

I believe other TCP member have tried and reccomended this paper as well (that's probably where I learned about it from, but honestly can't remember - had the link saved for a while and finally decided to try it out after several other unsatisfactory results with other papers).

This paper is fantastic when printed with default printer settings and even better when you make sure to select the best quality and correct paper type in your printer preferances.  in fact, the finished product is even better than some of the retail covers I have in my collection.  I would very highly reccomend this paper.  Tis true, it is a bit pricey for just 50 sheets, but well worth it in my opinion.
