still alot of ppl don't replace the thermal paste the lies inside the heatsink, there is 2 layers of thermal paste in the older generation of the ps3, rlod happens when the heat is not dispersed, re-balling fluid will do the job correctly, to get to the inside layers for the cpu you need a razor blade and alot of patience, and the gpu is glued down is adhesive thermal paste need to be heated at 150 before you can safely remove the heatsink, if removed cold there's a chance your going to rip a ram out, or damage the soldering points in the gpu. but what i am saying is if the silicon based thermal paste inside the cpu and gpu are not replaces the heat is trapped inside both possessors, because the paste becomes rubbery you can actually remove it with your fingernail. once that done, to help prevent future heat related break downs, you can instal a 200k pot from the 3.5v wire that leaves the power supply to the pulse wire if the fan to make it run at a higher base setting, and if needed it will increase on its own, a big downfall of the older gen is once starting up the fan runs at around 25 (not alot and heat has time to gather) but with the 200k and diode you can make it run at 30% - 40% which helps. |

I got my $50 out of it, and I am enjoying my slim. |

I used gopher mods last year. Right around this time actually. It was worth it IMO. My brother sold me his slim, so I use my slim in my living room and I have my phat in my bedroom. I use it for netflix and hulu and games like Catherine/New Vegas where the saves won't transfer/won't let me keep getting trophies. It is worth it. |
