Check the model number. --- End quote --- Judging by previous threads he's created I don't think he has a ps3 ??? Anyway, nowadays I think it's just quicker and easier to get a new ps2 (if theyre still around?) and a new ps3 instead of hunting around for a launch ps3 |

Yes, you can buy video upscalers to do the scaling (some better than the PS3s scaling), but PS1 games wont play on a PS2 through component...and they cant be scaled unless you have a scaler that has Composite/S-video in as well as Component. There is the PSP option, but that has its own issues.....of course you can play PS1 games on any ps3 so I am just putting my foot in my mouth. |

No you're absolutely right, the virtual memory card is a huge benefit. Although I'll admit that playing ps1 games on the ps3 on an hd tv isn't exactly pleasing to the eyes lol. I wouldn't play ps1 games on my ps2 cause I don't want to purchase a ps1 memory card :p But I should say that getting both systems is my personal preference over getting a launch ps3. Especially considering they're age and their unknown history of possible abuse. |

PS1 games look beautiful in component using the PS2. The problem is that it's low res component 240p which most all modern TV's can't accept without an upscaler. Most CRT's with component inputs however can display the very low resolution. But you are right the launch PS3 models are the best since they upscale it to HD for modern TV's internally using Sony hardware instead of a third party upscaler. Not to mention the added benefits of virtual memory cards. |
