If what I see on Gamestop and Nintendo.com is correct, I am fuming mad!  I want a white console, but apparently if you get the white you must get the 8gb memory WTF?  And if you want the black you MUST buy the $350 32gb memory?

Yeah, I'm totes OK with it because I've always intended on buying a black Wii U, and to me the extra storage and Nintendoland pack-in, as well as the charging cradle, are definitely worth the extra $50.

how is this storage handled?, hard drive or hard wired?

hard drive, shouldnt be too hard to swap out, that'll probably be the first thing to get hacked!

whatever, i was always going to buy the black one anyway, so not really bothered!

I thought I heard the words "flash memory" being used, but I'm not 100% on that.

Good old Nintendo, always at least 5 years behind the curve. 8GB is like a sad joke. My fucking phone has more capacity than that.

OP, buy both, swap the guts, sell the black 8GB.  I also want a white one to match my Wii, so I may very well do the same.

I was expecting this to be about faux stereotypes, like the black Wii being bigger. How disappointing.

Oh wait, now it is :D

Even 32 GB is honestly quite a joke at this point.  You can get USB drives or SD cards of that size for pretty cheap.  When the competition has 250GB or more hard drives on the market right now, putting out a console with 8 GB is ridiculous.

Not to mention, they are pushing all of this digital content including movies and tv shows.  How are people supposed to spend all those wii points on games they can't even store?  And they don't have any kind of account system, so deleting or keeping track of what you have downloaded is a pain.  Obviously the virtual console games aren't huge, but if the system can support larger and more expansive games then the download sizes will only get bigger.

the issue is more the stands, charger and the pack in game. The drive space is expanded via SD cards, usb keys and external usb harddrives (according to nintendo).

So get what you want and then buy yourself a 32gb usb key.

A black Wii U would be a Nice addition but I'll probably wait after released for a trim down black version with 8gb instead of 32gb.. Also black friday is around the corner after released, I'm sure that the stores will have some kind of sale. If it's not sold out by then.

I actually kind of thought this would be the case so I wasnt too surprised by it. As previously stated Microsoft has done this before so its not out of the realm of thought for nintendo to do something similar. If nintendo had made both packages available in both colors that woukd have been 4 different skus at once. That would have been extremely frustrating coming from the retailer's perspective.

I highly doubt anyone will have any sort of discount on the WiiU for black friday.  Launch consoles sell themselves around the holiday so there will be no reason for a retailer to slash the prices of something that is only a week old and is likely sold out.  I'm sure they'll advertise that some will be in stock but it'll be the same pricepoint and packaging.

I agree.... no sales on black friday. My guess is guaranteed 10 in stock per store ads. (thats if its a sell out like last time.... im not so sure this time.)

Triple agree on no sale prices.

Do expect to be forced to buy package "deals" though. That was the case with the PS3 and Wii at many retail chains.  Retailers make zero dollars on consoles (and if you figure in their overhead and labor, they actually loose money on eah console sale), so the only way they can make that up is with game and accessory sales.
