What Do/Don't you collect and why?

JDavis:

COLLECT
All the things! ... eventually.

DOESN'T COLLECT
Only things I don't yet have the system for.

Superchop:

Typically I'll only buy games I intend to play or ones that interest me if it's cheap enough.  Mainly current gen games, but I have been on a ps1 kick ever since I learned that the ps3 can play them just fine.

Truth be told though, I doubt I'll really buy many if any cartridge based games but I might make a few exceptions.  The lack of box/manuals and some ridiculous prices on CIB games is really a turnoff.

palmer6strings:

I collect just about anything that has to do with video games.
Even toys, Glasses, tins. As long as it has to do with games!

Just because I'm not a big fan of a brand or a certain console (Cough...PS3... Cough.) doesn't mean I won't collect it.

My top 3 favs are nes, snes, and Xbox 360.

What I don't collect is the things I don't own, but someday will.  ;)

TyrannicalFascist:

Well....don't say I didn't warn you.

Gaming I collect:
I mostly just buy gaming things if they are fun, though I do enjoy finding cool variants of things. When it comes to games, I either get games I wanted, games I liked but didn't own, or games that people strongly recommend. I get games for:

-NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, PS1

-GB, GBC, GBA, DS, 3DS, Game Gear

I do....kinda...collect Mario games. There's a few I have that absolutely suck, but they are Mario and nostalgic, so I keep them. I'd also like to finish collecting all the easily obtainable Virtual Boy games, as I currently have half of them.

I don't really collect the systems themselves, although I do own some variants like Sega CD model 2/32X and Sega CDX, and most Nintendo handheld redesigns. Of course now that Wiggy is looking into back-lights for GBA and back/front lights for possibly more, I may have 2 of some of those systems.

I'll also occasionally collect interesting controllers - most recently the Super Game Boy Commander, Hori Digital Controller (Game Boy Player controller), and I've got my eye on the biggest monstrosity of them all: the Gamecube Keyboard controller.  8)

Gaming-related things I collect:

-Mario Kart & Diddy Kong Racing Toy Biz figures - Remember these? They go for A LOT on eBay, but every once in a while I get lucky and find a loose figure and vehicle that goes for cheap. I had Mario and Bowser as a kid, and recently I've picked up Yoshi, Wario and Diddy Kong.

-Pokémon Cards - I had a pretty big collection as a kid, and in the last 2 years I've decided to slowly complete the generation I expansions (base - gym challenge, plus variants, errors and promos). So far I've completed Base and Jungle, and I'm very close on Fossil, Team Rocket, Gym Heroes and the Black Star Promos.

-Nintendo Power - Now that the magazine is ending, I'm considering expanding my meager collection a bit....over the course of a few years.

I also collect various assorted Nintendo things from the SNES-N64 era, mostly things that appeared in Nintendo Power catalogues, like the bean bag characters (which I've completed to my satisfaction), soundtracks, strategy guides for my favorite games, and random other collectibles here and there.

Non-gaming things I collect:

-Hasbro Star Wars Figures - This is probably my biggest collection. I basically want the best version of each character, so I don't have every Darth Vader variation from the muscular Power of the Force 2 line onward. I collect them loose, and for all 6 movies, the Expanded Universe and Other (concept art figures, Star Tours). I used to also collect The Clone Wars figures, but the variations of clones got crazy, the line has practically died, and they are now doing realistic versions of the characters, so I'm selling off the bulk of that collection soon. I'll periodically pull some out and display them near my desk so that they don't all just sit in storage in my room. The scary thing is I know many people online who collect all of the figures since 1978, carded. I can't even imagine the kind of space that would take up.

-Star Wars 30th Anniversary Coins - These were figure pack-ins at the time, and now I'm down to my final 2 promotional coins.

-Star Wars Omnibus - LOVE these. Some of my favorite Star Wars stories are the comics, and these collections are big, chronologically ordered or themed, and collect even the most obscure stuff for a very low price. If you ever want to get into Star Wars comics, start with an Omnibus.

-Star Trek Micromachines - I've got all but 5 now!

-Batman: The Animated Series Figures - Already had Batman, Robin and many of the villains, and now I'm pretty close to getting all the villains they released. Not interested in all those wacky neon orange Batman variants, other than this one I had as a kid that shot discs from his giant helmet.

Blueprint:

I collect anything released after the nes. but also have a 2 atari system with some games..

It all started as a Ebay business buying for dirt cheap and selling high on ebay..
7 years ago when i moved to Las Vegas i could find video games everywhere at swapmeets for a few dollars nothing over 5 dollars..

One time I bought a box full of Unlicensed Color Dreams Games at the swapmeet not knowing anything about them I paid 1.25 a piece for about 40 sealed games , stupid me sold most of then back in the day between 40-60 a game on ebay... imagine if I had then now.... I only kept 2 Baby Boomer Sealed and Crystal Mines Sealed ...

Anyways ever since then I started collecting games and consoles my collecting range from 600-700 games from different systems, I also used to repair consoles for fun so I may have somewhere around 35-40 consoles that I was supposed to sell Long time ago... mostly ps2, nes toasters, and original xbox that i bought really cheap...

I still sell on ebay but just enough to buy other games I want..

As of right now I'm collecting mostly original gameboy games..
