Which is why I feel this thread is also kinda stupid, as I collect stupid things.  Usually $5 gets me $50 =P  But you have to know what to do with it and you can't be a jerk and lie to people if something is broken.  Those people should be smited with Arseen's HAMMER

What I Collect
Game Systems - Mostly the mainstream stuff (SNES, Dreamcast, etc.), but I always keep my eye out for something obscure. I also have one rule - I always try to get the earliest version of the system I can. So, no Model 2 Genesises or SNES Minis for me.

Games - Naturally, I only buy games for the systems I own, and I only buy games I have an intention of playing, which pretty much rules out any chance of me acquiring a "complete set" (though, my collection is so small, I doubt I'll ever own every game I want to). I also don't go for duplicates.

Manuals - But only for games I have the original boxes for. Doesn't seem to have much point in having a "complete" game without the box.

What I Don't Collect
Movies - I used to, but I eventually found that I would get bored after watching a movie for 3-or-so-times, and it'd just go onto my shelf, to never be watched again.

Music - I'm not that much into music, and I can't find a good way to collect it, anyway (Vinyl? Too outdated. CDs? We should have surround-sound by now. DVD Audio? Too limited of a selection. Download? How would I display it?). I have made the exception for a couple of soundtracks, but I doubt I have 10 CDs in all.

Trading Cards - I used to have a massive collection (and, technically, still do, but I haven't unboxed it in years) of Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but it grew too expensive. Maybe someday I'll go back and try to track down the original 151 to put on display or something.

And I can cut you for calling me that!  There is always that ONE person on EVERY game / location I am at that calls me Smooth, must think my name is "SmoothinNow", what a wierd name that would be and would be completely wierd.  Maybe I should create another account and be nice with it.  Lord Arseen knows what happens when I get mad, he only brings it up every 13 days.  I had multiple people state ignorant and quiet rude things to me a year in and a half ago, so I created a name and summed up (for the most part) what they were rudely saying with some additions to it.  Still can't get over those few members though, was laaame.

============================================================

On a serious note though, I have bunch of 'random' things I collect, but everything is stored away.  Video Games, Strategy Guides, old World Of Power booklets (mentioning this to Forte), Accessories, virtually all the different colors of controllers for each system (Thanks again Shenske and SonicAdvDX for the different variations in Pikachu N64 controllers), Hard Candy, god, I wish I could just take a nice picture =P

If things weren't so damn cheap here I wouldn't buy it.  For Example:

NES Powerpad in (black and white) box: $1.99
SNES Mousepad W/ Mario Paint *MINT* In Box: $2.99
Mega Man X *NEAR MINT* In Box: $18.00
Donkey Kong Country 2 SNES In Box *MINT*: $12.00

Now I have a total of (2) Mega Man X and (3) DK2's, why, because it was so cheap.  I was laughing though as DK2 without the box was $13, and with the box was $12.  "Oh, so the box makes this that much gayer and harder to sell that you have to mark it down in price so that some poor sucker has to buy it?  God... I'm that sucker ain't I..."

At least they weren't shouting rude things.  How quiet were they?  Are we talking whispers, or just loud enough to be heard?  Although, aren't quiet rude things generally saved for the bedroom?  Perhaps those people liked you?

Am I a bad collector if i only collect things that i like to use?
I will never have a huge game room, but if i'm not going to play a game, why own it? I like to let people get games i don't want. I hate resellers who want to make a quick buck.

Do collect: most old games.  I guess I realize the old stuff needs a good home.

do NOT collect: PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 because i HATE anything NEW.  It just makes me feel like i have to HAVE it all, and I don't want that.

Don't write something off just because its new. There are some great games that don't really show up on the radar due to the Juggernaut that is CoD, and a lot were written off as they got below a 7 on IGN.
My LPs Channel. Currently playing Legend of Zelda: Windwaker HD, Metal Gear Solid 2, and Resident Evil 2.

it'll be good, when it gets older...and cheaper.
Actually, I started this tradition when my son went with his mom to sell his NES...and when I found out I was ANGRY. I paid 10 times the amount he sold it for, so from that point on, he sold his older systems to me, and used that money for the new ones.
That's why I only collect the not-new systems.

I'm interested to see in the future what people consider the hidden gems of 360 and PS3 (or Wii). I have personally skipped these consoles altogether but might try them a bit further along the way when the console prices are on par with other "last gen" devices.
