SNES - worth buying if "acceptable"/possibly broken?
Umbra:
I know I've been throwing a few topics up here recently but I figured this would actually be worth asking about. I'm on amazon and I see an SNES for $15 shipped. This is a rather good bargain, were it not for one thing. Condition is "Acceptable" and the description says "you need to play with it to work."
Should I even bother with this purchase? I'm not very knowledgeable on how to repair these things so it may be a total waste. Opinions/advice on this would be very appreciated.
edit: nevermind. No sooner than I hit post the offer was gone. I need to find a cheap way to get this thing...

Well, Cartridge based systems are built to outlast cockroaches...some dont (I am looking at you, front loading NES). Sometimes if it says you need to fiddle with it, the cart slot is dirty and needs a good cleaning.
this is a method I have used and can personally vouch for.

This. This times a billion.
I buy "broken" cart-based consoles ALL. THE. TIME. 85% of the time they just need a cleaning, and the other 15% they work just fine and the seller is a moron.

I'd have jumped on it too but I was a tad too late... the cheapest one is now closer to $40... just like the local store. I found one on ebay for $12 with free shipping so I'll keep an eye on it and see if the price jumps too high. Looks like shit but I can probably give it a paintjob... just not sure what yet. ;)

Mind posting a link to it? Don't worry, I won't go bidding on it or anything.
Also, might want to keep an eye on this one.

It looks like absolute shit, but if you're OK with painting them (which is what it sounds like), then I'd seriously consider this one. The mini had the best video output, hands down. The Game Genie won't work with it, but that's about the only issue.
