I can actually play that Dr. Wily theme from Mega Man 2 on my guitar. Fun tune! |

No, I do not listen to Black Metal or Death Metal. However, I did listen to everything you showed me, twice in fact. I don't listen to any of those bands, not to be rude but they all made me want to vomit. When music is all the same style with loads of blast beats, speed/tremelo picking, but how the vocalist sings is when the genre changes, that's just a load of crap to me because its the same genre... Not really trying to start a fight, but thats where we might have to dissagree on something else. Hardcore punk from the 80's to me does not classify as hardcore metal from musicians today. Especially when you search "Hardcore Metal Bands" and it brings up these artists: As I Lay Dying Killswtich Engage Bullet For My Valentine All That Remains Trivium Just to name a few. I will agree though that alot of today's music is a mix between genres, which I know we are. I would consider us more of a Melodic/Hardcore/Deathmetal band (NOT THRASH, I can't stand the crap), and all of my members agree. Like I said that is a lot of the older stuff. I was being a little broad with my musical vocabulary. So in a way I'm sorry to say, I dissagree with your Hardcore. I don't have 30 years in school for music, but I do have 11 years playing the guitar alone and 15+ playing about 20 other instruments plus my whole life listeneing to and playing what genres I do like. Like I said, Sorry if this makes you mad for it was not my goal. |

As for the genre distinctions, you agreed with me in a way when you used the term "Hardcore Metal Bands". Big differerence, in my opinion, from simply saying "hardcore". If you say "hardcore" to someone, then "hardcore metal" to the same person, you will likely elicit two separate responses. That doesn't mean one is better than the other - it's simply a matter of accurate descriptors. --- Quote from: palmer6strings on September 08, 2012, 10:40:19 AM ---Like I said, Sorry if this makes you mad for it was not my goal. --- End quote --- No, your goal was to defend yourself from the guy who gave you a smug sense of superiority. I'm not mad (believe me, you'd know), but I do apologize if I came off like an arrogant prick. This isn't really case of right or wrong, better or worse. All I wanted to provide was perspective. Whether you've been playing music for 30 days or 30 years, what's important is that we enjoy it. The time I spent in the industry makes me want to reach out to younger musicians and try to help them avoid mistakes that a lot of us made over the years. If it came off in any other way, it wasn't intentional. Rock on, and back to the videogame music! |
