So I'm a latecomer to the God of War series and was looking forward to getting the entire collection for the PS3, seeing as they HD-ed the 2 PS2 and the 2 PSP games.  This would result in buying the GoW Collection (I & II), GoW Origins (Chains of Olympus & Ghost of Sparta), and GoW III.

Well guess what!  They just released God of War Saga (all 5 games) about a week ago for a $39.99 price point.  Rejoice!  Oh wait...

"The games featured in the collection include God of War, God of War II, God of War III, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and God of War: Ghost of Sparta. It includes two Blu-ray Discs – including God of War and God of War II on the first and God of War III on the second – and a voucher to download Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. The games retain the same features as their first releases on the PS3. In addition to the games, the collection features exclusive bonus content and a voucher for a one month trial of PlayStation Plus. It was released on August 28, 2012 in North America. The games, with the exception of God of War III, are also available to download from the PlayStation Store." -Wikipedia

WTF Sony!  I want a damn 3rd disc.  I don't want over a third of my hard drive taken up with two games and/or endure a lengthy download when I want to play them.  This is why I hate the direction games are going.  They already had them in disc form and had been selling them!  Why couldn't they just put that same disc in this collection?  This is a total slap in the face.

So now I am either going to go with my original plan of buying all 3 discs, or buy the Saga and try to sell the voucher (and then buy the Origins Collection).  The efforts to curb buying used games continues...

On a related note, there are plenty of games on the PSN store being released (mainly HD treatments) that I would gladly buy for the retail price if I could get them in disc form.  Is the demand just not there?  Or is the production of physical copies just too expensive?  I don't get it.

Yeah, I thought that was a dumb move...even more when if I heard correctly the "Saga" doesn't come with any instruction manuals!  Same with the Infamous collection that they released.

Although, It doesn't really bother me since I bought GOW Collection, Origins and GOW 3 seperate from each other.  Origins I even got as a little set that came bundled with a red ps3 controller.  I too much prefer having the disc over the dlc so I would've never bought the GOW Saga.

Truth be told, I'm not a fan of Sony and the ps3 is my least favorite of the current gen systems.  But I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy playing their exclusives.  Anything that's not exclusive though I always get for the 360.

The God of War Saga, is a sorry excuse at trying to get more money before the new GOW game comes out and it's something that was in no way shape or form was needed.  The HD remakes already available so I really saw no point in rereleasing it the way they did.  I'm not saying I don't appreciate the HD remakes, but releasing it just the 1 time is more then enough.

you still have the original 60GB hard drive? BOTH Psp remakes come to just under 20GB Use the money your saving from not buying them all separately to get a new Hard Drive

Wouldn't a 1 terabyte hard drive be better?

As nice as it is to have a bigger capacity hard drive,  it's a kick in the nuts when said hard drive fails.    Happened to me 2 weeks ago.

I have ps plus, so have (had) quite a few full retails downloaded -  Sony REALLY need to update the firmware to allow these downloads to be backed up to memory sticks.  I have over 900 items to sort through and redownload,  and the user interface sucks monkey balls.  I can't reorder the list of previous downloads to alphabetical or size order,  it's all done by date.  and one item at a time. And things that I upgraded from trial to full game I have to search out the demo file, wait for it to download and install, then search out the unlock key.

Sony are obviously trying to ease users towards download only with these moves (even my vita games don't come with manuals!),  but until their consoles come with ability to backup purchases, better user interface for purchase history,  and large (huge) capacity solid state drives,  it just won't work.  Oh yeah,  and the price of retail download games being more than a physical copy in the shop?  You can stick that where the sun don't shine.

Mini rant over.

Unfortunately, my PS3 is actually on an extended loan from a friend.  So unless I decide to try and buy it from him, I can't really mod it or anything.  I assume swapping the HDD is fairly simple though?

Yes:

Open the HDD bay cover.
Open 1 screw.
Pull the HDD cradle out.
Open 4 screws
Replace HDD
Fasten 4 screws
Slide the Cradle back in
Fasten 1 screw
Close bay cover..

Lol, I think I would've killed myself at that point...

One of my main problems I have with digital downloads isn't the cost.  Sure it's usually more expensive but the main issue I have is that I have a monthly cap!  Every month I'm capped at 250 gigs of data and if I exceed it I get a warning letter...If I do it 1 or 2 more times they've put it in there terms of use and they'll kick me off the service!  So with netflix already being a bandwidth hog I'd have to worry and keep track of what I can and can't d/l from said stores.

With GOW Origins as a digital dl, that's 20 gigs of that cap gone already...in a single shot :(  I wouldn't want to be stuck with digital dl only since it'd severely limit my gaming options per month.

I don't buy into the digital only at all - and always go for the physical copy if it's an option.  However, with PS plus giving free stuff every month, i'm not gonna refuse it - and lots of things like Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD being digital only, I didn't have a choice.  Thankfully France seems to be pretty OK with download limits - i've never had a usage warning yet.  Used to get them all the time in the UK.

I'm pretty sure you can't go above 500gb. I think there is a restriction in the firmware. I'm not 100% on this though

This was part of my point though, I never go for a digital copy.  I suppose if I was a PSN+ subscriber I would play the games, but the fact that you don't actually own the games (and lose the ability to play them without a subscription) has turned me off from going that route.  THPS HD is actually an intriguing game to me, and I loved playing the series as a kid but I'm so against digital downloads that I won't play the game.  I'd rather play my THPS3.

I am getting into the Rayman series and they just redid Rayman 3 in HD and released it on the PS store.  I actually am going to get the old disc copy on PS2 though, despite it's inferiority in virtually every way.  They really are alienating a customer base, and if not spending my dollars is the only way I can get my point across then that's what I'll do.

Edit: Just found this informative thread about DLC.  http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=325240

I'm sure there are others out there like me who want DLC included on the disc as opposed to a code.  That link has a nice list of games and you can find out whether not things like GotY editions come with a code or not.
