Because I can't restrict discussion to the September pickup topic. Here we can recommend films to other members, as well as share our experiences, be it a few hours ago to the last century(Disney films do span quite a bit of time, you know).

I'll keep it brief for the first post: Hunchback of Notre Dame is severely underrated. I imagine it may be partially due to it coming out around the same time as Mulan and Hercules, and also due to it not appealing to kids(This is one of very few disney films I've seen to reference religion... especially to this degree). However, everything, from the intro to the ending with the little girl and Quasimodo... just magical. The gargoyles were obviously added to try to balance out the serious tone, but while they can get in a few laughs, they can only suppress the dark undertones. Judge Claude Frollo is up there with the likes of Maleficent in terms of Disney villains. Captain Phoebus was also surprisingly awesome, despite my not remembering him from when I first watched the film in the late 90's lol

I actually enjoy all of the older "classic" Disney films.

From 101 Dalmations, Little Mermaid, Alice in Wonderland, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, etc etc

My all time favorite though is Lion King, it was a movie that I will remember forever since it was probably the only movie to make me cry :(

But not exactly off topic, I also enjoy the Studio Ghibli films that are released by Disney. Castle in the Sky and My Neighbor Totoro are 2 of my favorites but the rest do stand pretty much side by side with them.

Both of those are Miyazaki films. Absolutely nothing to do with Disney other than licensing and distribution. Just thought that was worth pointing out.

I think there's a pretty universal love for Miyazaki's work, even in the US. Good stuff, and not in the Disney mold of girl meets boy/boy meets girl, talking animals, happily ever after. It works, but has just been done a LOT. I really wish Disney would work outside the box a tad.

Well, I consider the "Studio Ghibli" films to be a sub-canon of Disney, since they ARE published by Disney in certain territories. Kinda like what Nintendo is doing with Professor Layton.

I also consider Pixar a separate "canon" from the main Disney canon that includes the likes of Snow White and Cinderella.

That said, Totoro and Spirited Away are god-tier.

Well yeah, I couldn't remember Miyazaki's name off hand, I just remember the big ol' blue screen with Totoro and the Studio Ghibli name on it. I know that Disney has nothing to do with them besides releasing them ;)

I just added those in because they are animated movies which are also released by disney.
