What about stuff like, BOR games? We have those hosted here.
I was kinda hoping when I finished my BOR mod, I might be able to have the cover here... :'(

I was also kinda looking to use that Metroid Prime 1+2 cover soon enough.

I think they are fine, but won't be hosted because there is no "real" game to go with them. I recommend getting an account on box.net et al to host these things; shenske uses one to host homebrew Dreamcast covers.

Ah well - never mind, but if that's the case i think we need to have a cleanup of the requests thread and prune out anything that's not gonna be hosted.

I also did a Prince of Persia Trilogy case in the PS2 section.  In the UK this was released as a single box, but in the US it came in 3 separate cases - i figured these series cases were in a similar vein?!?!?  Not got a problem with the decision - would just like some guidance before i waste time doing stuff that's not gonna be hosted.

Since the UK release actually happened, a US custom should be fine. I may be wrong on all of this. PM Snowcone and ask him yourself. Additionally, I'll ask the other admins what they think.

The Cover Project has many different admins with possibly different views on the subject, and since shenske is an admin he doesn't have to ask anyone before he uploads a cover (mostly). I think when the issue came up Snowcone said it was fine. I could be mistaken, however.

If it were up to me, I'd keep covers on The Cover Project limited to actual games that were developed. Half-Life DC, Thrill Kill, etc. would be allowed because they were developed by a "real" developer and were going to be released anyway.

If I were the admin in charge of uploading the cover, I would not upload covers for homebrew Beats of Rage games. I wouldn't care if someone hosted them elsewhere but linked to them from here, but TCP has a clear goal of preserving and casing retail games. (see: general disdain for users clearly requesting covers so they can case their pirated Pokemon Battle Revolution) I don't want this to turn into cdcovers.cc.

If I was making the call, the custom trilogies/double packs where no official cover was ever made for any region would not be hosted on TCP because they never existed.

That seems kind of lame, I mean games get sold in bundles all the time. I Just barely got an Xbox 360 that came with Halo 3 and Fable 2 in a shared case, they made up a custom cover for it that showed the halo cover on one side and the fable cover on the other.  Seeing as it's a retail product does it then qualify as "real" and if so how is that so different from these custom ones?  I think it'd be nice if the thecoverproject hosted multi covers.
The difference is one was made my Microsoft and the others were made by a talented artist not affiliated with a console. The Fable 2/Halo 3 combo is a "real" cover for a "real" compilation. (See: Pac-Man World 2 player's choice, Metroid Prime + MP2 bonus disc, etc.)

---
Once all of this is sorted out I will create a guide entitled "What can I upload?" so none of this stuff happens in the future. To my knowledge, the reason TCP takes such a strong stance on homebrew covers is because we don't want to have anything against us for endorsing piracy.

They are great covers sheep2001. I hope I don't come off as a dick, I just am not quite sure if they can be hosted.

This might be pushing it, but how about an 'unofficial covers' thread? Or would that be defeating the purpose of having no tolerance for piracy? I'm not for having these covers on the site either, other than the piracy part, I just don't want ISO collections/fake games cluttering the list. (Though I do have an R4 that needs covering)

By the way what's the stance on covers for flashcarts? Technically they could be considered for homebrew and not just piracy, but then again they also aren't official DS games.

My point of view is if the cover is for games in a series and there is a case that can actually house all the games then it should be able to be hosted. Also there should be absolutely no mentionings of an iso or rom set on the cover. Especially in this case since the PAL release did only have one case for multiple games then I don't see a problem in letting it be hosted here.

With the Beats of Rage covers, my BOR Simpsons was put on the site prior to me becoming an admin so somebody else must have thought it would be alright for it to be hosted too.

Sounds kind of arbitrary to me, but that's the last I'll say on it.  It's not my site and I don't care enough to make a bigger deal out of it.

Seems like we all have the same stance on the piracy issue, so that's a good grounding  at least.  Pretty much all my consoles are modded to play backups/homebrew/whatever - but mostly for playing imports.  Anything i have that isn't retail doesn't get any space on my shelf, just sits in a binder - and if it's good enough for me to play it, then i'll buy it.

As i said above - i don't mind either way what the decision is as regards to these multi covers - i just wanted to make it clear that they are NOT for iso's.

  • ...and that's the bottom line
I'm actually all for cutsom cases for series! It's also a good way to save space.

I mean we have the TCP side projects" where AppleQueso and Lumberjack42 reimagined the cases for the Resident Evil and Zelda games to have a uniform design for the entire series. Making a single case for lets say Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes or the Prince of Persia trilogy is the same thing just with another approach.

I'm with Shenske on this one and would even 1-up it :)
If someone wanted to make a single case custom cover for lets say the Splinter Cell quadrilogy or the Sly Raccoon trilogy or any other game that had sequels, I'd say do it. And I wouldn't think a minute about hosting it to be honest.

There are DVD cases in all kinds of sizes, and if someone feels like doing a cover the Splinter Cell games and put them all in one 4-disc DVD case then be my guest.

In this case I'd object. If the games exist (I'm talking retail here ;) ) and someone wants to have them all in one case and makes a cover then it should be fine, consequently a NTSC Prince Of Persia trilogy custom cover should be allowed.
But as Shenske said before, there mustn't be any indication that its purpose is to house ISOs or ROMS. This would solely be meant as an alternative way of storage.

As for the homebrew covers, we should handle it like we did before or as Doom suggested. The artist can store them on a box.net account or elsewhere  and link to them or share them via PM but they won't be hosted.

That's my take on it.

The issue is resolved. You can download

Viewtiful Joe Compilation
and
Metroid Prime Compilation

from The Cover Project. I love the 3D versions of the covers (from IMANDIX, I'm guessing) that you worked in. ;)

It's been a while, I went ahead and uploaded what I had done of the revised resident evil covers. Unfortunately I never finished revising Code: Veronica X, sorry. I ran into trouble with it while doing the back and considering that I won't likely be purchasing that version of the game myself, I have little motivation. I may try and make a set of covers for the ps2 titles sometime though, and I'll see about squeezing the ps2 Code:Veronica in there.

There is the worry that due to the way the site functions that these won't be able to "override" the old covers, however, I think that's a non-issue, as these covers have a lot of significant changes that some people might not like.

Sorry it's been so long, by the way. I've been caught up in a lot of things including my own music and stuff. I'll try to get back to making covers here soon.
