What about stuff like, BOR games? We have those hosted here.
I was kinda hoping when I finished my BOR mod, I might be able to have the cover here... :'(

I was also kinda looking to use that Metroid Prime 1+2 cover soon enough.

Ah well - never mind, but if that's the case i think we need to have a cleanup of the requests thread and prune out anything that's not gonna be hosted.

I also did a Prince of Persia Trilogy case in the PS2 section.  In the UK this was released as a single box, but in the US it came in 3 separate cases - i figured these series cases were in a similar vein?!?!?  Not got a problem with the decision - would just like some guidance before i waste time doing stuff that's not gonna be hosted.

Since the UK release actually happened, a US custom should be fine. I may be wrong on all of this. PM Snowcone and ask him yourself. Additionally, I'll ask the other admins what they think.

The Cover Project has many different admins with possibly different views on the subject, and since shenske is an admin he doesn't have to ask anyone before he uploads a cover (mostly). I think when the issue came up Snowcone said it was fine. I could be mistaken, however.

If it were up to me, I'd keep covers on The Cover Project limited to actual games that were developed. Half-Life DC, Thrill Kill, etc. would be allowed because they were developed by a "real" developer and were going to be released anyway.

If I were the admin in charge of uploading the cover, I would not upload covers for homebrew Beats of Rage games. I wouldn't care if someone hosted them elsewhere but linked to them from here, but TCP has a clear goal of preserving and casing retail games. (see: general disdain for users clearly requesting covers so they can case their pirated Pokemon Battle Revolution) I don't want this to turn into cdcovers.cc.

If I was making the call, the custom trilogies/double packs where no official cover was ever made for any region would not be hosted on TCP because they never existed.

--- Quote from: MisterCreazil on May 04, 2009, 02:36:50 PM ---That seems kind of lame, I mean games get sold in bundles all the time. I Just barely got an Xbox 360 that came with Halo 3 and Fable 2 in a shared case, they made up a custom cover for it that showed the halo cover on one side and the fable cover on the other.  Seeing as it's a retail product does it then qualify as "real" and if so how is that so different from these custom ones?  I think it'd be nice if the thecoverproject hosted multi covers.

The difference is one was made my Microsoft and the others were made by a talented artist not affiliated with a console. The Fable 2/Halo 3 combo is a "real" cover for a "real" compilation. (See: Pac-Man World 2 player's choice, Metroid Prime + MP2 bonus disc, etc.)

Once all of this is sorted out I will create a guide entitled "What can I upload?" so none of this stuff happens in the future. To my knowledge, the reason TCP takes such a strong stance on homebrew covers is because we don't want to have anything against us for endorsing piracy.

They are great covers sheep2001. I hope I don't come off as a dick, I just am not quite sure if they can be hosted.
juan0tron:
This might be pushing it, but how about an 'unofficial covers' thread? Or would that be defeating the purpose of having no tolerance for piracy? I'm not for having these covers on the site either, other than the piracy part, I just don't want ISO collections/fake games cluttering the list. (Though I do have an R4 that needs covering)

By the way what's the stance on covers for flashcarts? Technically they could be considered for homebrew and not just piracy, but then again they also aren't official DS games.

shenske:
My point of view is if the cover is for games in a series and there is a case that can actually house all the games then it should be able to be hosted. Also there should be absolutely no mentionings of an iso or rom set on the cover. Especially in this case since the PAL release did only have one case for multiple games then I don't see a problem in letting it be hosted here.

With the Beats of Rage covers, my BOR Simpsons was put on the site prior to me becoming an admin so somebody else must have thought it would be alright for it to be hosted too.
