I have to be honest, I am bored to death with video games lately!  I don't know why.  Anyway, i am a HUGE 80s Horror movie fan... seems like all good games and horror movies came from the mid 80s to the mid 90s and then went to shit.  So to keep me occupied I dug out some old DVDs.. I watched all the Nightmare on Elm street and Child's Play movies and Pet Sematary 1 & 2.

I would like a discussion on the Nightmare on elm street NES game.  I personally LOVE it!  I just beat it for the 1st time this summer.

So, in addition to voting for your favorite Freddy movie (if you have seen them all) what do you guys think of the Nightmare NES game?  Has anyone played it recently?  Can anyone say they LOVE it the way i do?  Or do most of you just own it because you collect games?

TBCH, I've only played it a few times, and I never disliked it.  I really want a copy, now that I fully understand the gameplay.  Now, Friday the 13th, I would own just as a companion piece- that game is awful. :)

I bought an NES Four Score to primarily use as an extension, but, it'd be great to have four players on NOES.

Go with Godzilla,

Jim

I love a Nightmare on Elm Street! Not the horrible NES game but the movie series. Part 3 is my favorite. So many great parts! Very quotable movie. :)

The remake killed most of its potential by trying to recapture the wisecracks.  Tension destroyer.  Great production design, great casting (at least, for Freddy)... but, the script was too dense.

Robert Englund is the Only man who could ever play Freddy.  You can have anyone play Jason and Michael Myers because they have no personality, no voice.  Also, brad Dourif is the only person who could even play Chucky's voice.  The Nightmare remake was horrible!

I am torn between 3 and 4, but voted for 4 because it was the 1st one I ever saw and it has a fucking killer soundtrack!  You don't like the game?!  It was based off Dream warriors!!!!  Do you own it?

I would have to say the first one is the best. All the others just get kind of dumb.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

You make me sick and I do not respect your warped opinion....  However, I thank you for your vote!  I thought the first two (especially 2) was the worst.

No, I'm sticking with the original series and movies canon to it.  Hence the reason Wes Craven's New Nightmare was excluded as well.  Hey but what about the NES game, Shenske?  Do you own it?  Like it?

Wes Cravens New Nightmare... was still Robert England, which is why I think it should be there as well?  They even reference the other movies in it?  How can you have Freddy VS Jason and not New Nightmare? Lol?

Because New Nightmare is a movie ABOUT the movies...  It has nothing to do with the story line of the series.  Freddy V Jason is the sequel to Freddy's Dead and Jason Goes to Hell.  They even show clips from ALL the Nightmare movies in the intro of freddy v jason... but not New Nightmare because it is not canon to the series.

  • ...and that's the bottom line
I voted for 4. I like the wisecracking Freddy more than the scary one. I think the one liners (welcome to prime time, bitch ;) ) really set him apart from the other hall of famers (Jason, Michael) even more than the "kills you in your dreams"-bit.
I voted 4 because it has my favourite kill in the series (the chick that gets her arms bend and broken with the dumbell, turns into a cockroach and gets squashed).

Never played the game. Just saw the AVGN video of it. But since I'm a huge horror fan, too, I plan on getting all the slasher games (Nightmare, Halloween, Friday 13th, TCM) but just for display purposes.

Also a short comment on "nobody besides Englund can play Freddy". I think Jackie Earle Haley did a great job. Of course nobody can beat Englund but Jackie pulled off his version of Freddy pretty good considering the material he had to work with. He didn't go the easy route trying to do an Englund impression.
