Retro Deckades:

Yeah, the 101 is in fair condition. The screen, buttons, and inside in general are all in excellent shape, but there are light scratches/scuff marks on the exterior. For $6, I'm sure not going to complain!

It's shaping up to be an excellent month for me. Tonight I picked up four CIB Game Boy games for $7 a piece: Balloon Kid, Boomer's Adventure in Asmik World, Tiny Toon Adventures: Babs' Big Break, and The Flinstones: King Rock Treasure Island. I was stoked to find the last one, as I had almost bought cartridge only copies from ebay for twice what I actually paid.

I also grabbed a copy of Batman Returns for the NES for $10.

Also, wait until you see the creature at the end of alien 4. It's actually pretty terrifying, like for really scary. Too bad the movie is so campy.

The 101 was a major score!  I'm so jelly. I just spent 33 on a pretty beat up unit just to scavenge the screen for a project :/

So we watched Alien (1979) and Aliens (2003 Special Edition) last night.  Both were very good and very different films.  Blu-ray looked fantastic, but I quickly acclimated to it after about 10 minutes.  I was especially amazed at how good a film from 1979 can look in HD.  Other than the obvious things that date the film (computers, hair styles, effects) I might have thought the film came out this year; it looks that good.

Not exactly sure how much time the Special Edition adds to Aliens but it was pretty long (2.5+ hours).  I was nearly falling asleep at the end but I finished it and it was definitely worth it.  I'm aware that the series drops off after that but I'll get to the other two soon enough.  Not to mention it has like 65 hours of bonus features...so that should keep me busy when I don't know what to do lol.

Glad you liked em!  There are very few sci-fi films or film franchises that have stood the test of time. Among Alien, the only others that instantly spring to mind are Star Wars, of course, and Blade Runner.

One little tidbit that people often don't know about Bluray and high def remasters is that, most often, older films are better suited for the transition than many newer films.  Film itself, as in the 35mm stuff that was/is used to shoot movies, doesn't have a resolution like we think of today. It can't be measured in lines, rows, or pixels.  As long as the original master is in good shape, then there's a really good chance that the transition to bluray will restore a large amount of detail and quality that has actually been LOST with older formats like DVD and VHS.

Modern movies that are shot digitally (which isn't the norm yet, but it's popularity is growing quite a bit) have the potential to leave themselves a bit screwed. They can only shoot at one resolution. If it's lower than whatever high def resolution comes after 1080, then those movies may not benefit at all from a transition. We haven't yet reached the maximum resolution that a good quality 35mm film can provide ;D

Nice! Lemme know how Downpour is. Still haven't gotten around to playing it. Looked to much like Alan Wake to me... haha.
Not a bad thing, but I'd like for it to be more Silent Hill-y. Have heard good things about it though.
