Thoughts on Zelda OOT & MM
larryinc64:
I beat him. I just spammed my sward with out Z targeting on. I walked a in a slow circle around him, right in front of him and only lost 1/2 of my 10 hearts.

I really like hearing your thoughts and opinions regarding the game for a few reasons.
1) Even though your quite young (no offense, I know that nobody at your age wants to be called a "kid" or "child" or anything like that. I'm not so old that I don't remember that feeling), you have a maturity well beyond your years. I would never have guessed that you're 17 (right?) based on your posts. Most adults can't be bothered to use proper grammar and punctuation, let alone someone of your age. Thanks for making this thread easy to read :D
2) You weren't able to play this game at launch, so you don't have the nostalgia or a set of the rose colored glasses that we all wear when it comes to favorites like OOT so your opinion is probably not terribly biased.
3) Your constant updates as you trudge through the game remind me of the 1st time that I went through it. It's almost like I'm experiencing it again for the 1st time.
I was never bothered by the camera in this game. Part of that may be that it was pretty much the easiest and best camera system of the time. Maybe I should pop it in and see if it still works as well as I recall.
Repetition is sort of the name of the game. I personally love the formula, but I can see how it might feel that way. Just wait 'til you decide that you want get every item and every heart container piece. You'll be back in those dungeons yet again LOL!
Those "waste of time" puzzles are often there to introduce the mechanic required to solve future puzzles. The time blocks are a perfect example. Later on there will be puzzles with those very blocks, and they do indeed require some thought (if memory serves correctly).
The jump is annoying as fuck.
I wish it was bigger actually. I HATE how Skyward Sword doesn't have a map that you can traverse completely on foot. I can't stand flying around endlessly towards a stupid column of color just so I can go to some other spot on the map below >:( The large overworld map makes the game feel all that much more like I'm in a real world. Epona makes the map feel dinky, especially when compared to the overworld in Twilight Princess.
The Z-targeting feature was quite unique at the time (on console games at least). Targeting enemies in a 3D environment without it was no easy task. It sort of felt like cheating at first, but once you face some of the bosses that require a LOT more than just holding down Z and slashing away, you realize that it's just a helpful tool and not something that really softens the game.
Anywho, looking forward to progress. I'm curious as to what your favorite dungeon will be :)

1) I am 17, I hate how most people in my school can not form a correct sentence but most of my friends are in the drama club, so they at least know how to speak proper English.
2) I am planing a review series where I go over some older games and series, I plan on doing most of the Mario, Zelda and Sonic games up to the N64 era, but I am going to review the Sonic Adventure games too. I'll post more info when I have more work done, I am currently writing a review for the first non PC game I ever got, The Fiddgets for GB.
3)
4) The camera can be good in some places, and bad in others. One notable area is when you are jumping across ice platforms where Jabba Jabba once was as adult Link to go to the Ice Cave, the camera is always way to close to Link.
5) I kinda like how reppetition is used along side Link getting stronger to make you feel like you are advancing. Obstacles that were once a pain to get past are now easier. One good example is the giant monster in front of the Forest Temple, you had to run forward and dodge his attacks, after you get the bow you can just shoot him from a distance. I do plan on trying to get everything BTW.
6) The time block is not a very good example because before I did the one in the Forest Temple, I did the same thing in the grave where you get the Hook Shot, and Navi tells you every time, but some are more hidden than others.
7) Yes.
8 ) I wish the Zora Domain and Goron places were bigger. They do not feel like homes in my opinion, compared to the other villages. like Kakariko or the Hyrule castle market. There are no homes or living areas for anyone except the main ruler, and even then all they get is a big empty room with pots that I broke and stole what was inside.
9) The Z-Targeting works alright, sometimes it does not lock on to what you want it to but it works well.
I might do more topics like this for other games, I kinda want to start a SMB 3 vs. SMW debate or something, I'm curious what one would win, I personally like SMW better, I'll explain why later.
I', going to through my 2 cents about the music, While the game has very good tracks and very memorable songs, such as Hyrule Field, Lost Woods, and Gerudo Valley, I feel they missed the mark on Temple and battle music. The soundtrack for most of these consist mostly of random noises, such as the chanting in the Fire temple, or a straight note with no reconcilable tune. The track is fitting for the environment, but the short loop tends gets annoying after a while and they are completely forgettable for the most part. I wish they would have written better tracks for the Temples, you are normally in them for a very long time.

You're still not far enough to say that for sure. Keep on playing...
You can easily switch between enemies. I think the R button switches between all enemies withing range. Someone correct me if I can't recall which button(s) do this.
I'm super on the fence with SMB/SMW, but SMW wins out for me. In fact, I consider it a tie for my fav game ever along with Zelda 3. SMB3 is pretty freakin awesome though. The only thing that I can think of that would make it killer is a completely open map like SMW where you could go back and forth between worlds that you've already completed.
The music is good, but I didn't feel that it was awe-inspiring or anything. Again, Zelda 3 wins in my book with regards to score. It's the perfect mix of news tunes and remixed/updated original Zelda tunes (which are still remarkable to this day IMO).

You use triangle :P
But the only problem with Z Targeting is sometimes it has problems with flying enemies. You can see it coming towards you but it does not lock on. It works well for the most part though.
