If you want to get a very powerful weapon in the game, having Epona is essential. Here's a tip: two tasks are required (one at each age), and both involve the corral at Lon Lon Ranch.
The Water Temple is easily the most frustrating, but that's mostly because of the constant backtracking, and changing the water level a lot. Once you figure it out, it gets easier.

I would like to correct an error. The only time you need to get Epona is during the BigGoron's Sword side quest...other than that you can do with out her. The bridge is easy to cross in Gerudo Valley, the poles on the other side can be used with the hookshot.

Ah I forgot that you can use the hookshot there. But come on the BigGoron sword is so badass how could you not do it?

it's a classic masterpiece that has aged, but not by much. In fact, I enjoy it more now than I did when it came out.

Actually, you also need Epona in order to get the two prizes at the Gerudo Village Archery Contest, and the fourth Empty Bottle.
