games-go-round:
I gotta say, I have a minor gripe with all of this.  Doom for the SNES is one of my favorite games on the system, and one that I currently don't have.  I sold my copy a few years back when I was "cleaning house," and now have the itch to buy it back.  Between 2009, when I sold it, and today, it's almost tripled in price on the used market!  It used to go for $5 - $8, tops, and now goes for close to $15 or $20, after shipping.  I really want to buy the game back for my collection, but I wonder now if it's worth the extra cash.  When I sold it, I'm pretty sure I ony netted about four bucks, and I felt pretty lucky!

I don't mind repros (hell, I have a few, myself!) but I do mind when a quality game is sacrificed in the process.  If we were talking about some of the NHL or Madden games, or even Winter Heat, I wouldn't mind it so much.  That being said, I'm frustrated that the repro community has driven the price of the SNES Doom cart up so much :-\

Ask youself this: would it be worth it to make a reproduction cart if the original donor cart were, say, Super Mario RPG?  Or Earthbound?  I know that Doom isn't in the same league as those two, in either quality or price, but I think you get my point.  When a solid, quality game has to be sacrificed to make a reproduction, like using Super Mario Bros. 2 to make Final Fantasy III, or Tecmo Super Bowl to make Earthbound Zero, I think a line has certainly been crossed.  Thoughts?

I do agree that it's bit sad to sacrifice good games, and rather would like carts to be made from scratch but certain parts are only found in carts.
