So I wasn't the only one who couldn't manage to finish Xenoblade. Maybe I was expecting too much but it bored me to hell....
Boring is an understatement. :/

It saddens me that it's getting 9-10 reviews, while something like NSMB2 is getting the shaft.

Wow, really? I'm about 88 hours in and don't see the finish line, but I am still enjoying the hell out of it. I couldn't tell you the last time I enjoyed a Mario game for that long. If you combine the two Galaxy games, it might come close, but certainly not the NSMB games. I'm hoping that'll change with the Wii U version, which I think looks more promising.
All 88 of those hours are wasted. You could have played through almost every 2D and 3D Mario game in that amount of time, and have a much better experience. Xenoblade/FinalFantasy12 doesn't deserve the high scores it gets, just because it's one of the very few rpgs on the Wii.

I actually really enjoyed playing both xenoblade and ff XII.  Only thing I can agree on is that the games are similar while ff XII was more polished.

Both can be long winded games but I loved both the battle systems and a good chunk of the content in both is optional so you can play as little or as much as you like

Someone really has a hate on for this game. I haven't played an RPG in years, so I haven't been jaded by games like FFXII, but I there is no way I will consider those 88+ hours wasted when I consider the enjoyment I've gotten out of the game thus far. I certainly would have received enjoyment from a Mario-thon as well, but in this case I was wanting a new experience, and I haven't found flaw with Xenoblade's mechanics or presentation.

Yeah, I can understand why people would hate the game, and personally speaking there were times that I did get a bit bored.  But overall I did enjoy the game so I don't consider the time I put into it a waste.

Although playing 80+ hrs of Mario games...I couldn't do that...not one after the other at least.

The other games I listed, I do agree that they aren't exactly the best in their respective series, but seeing as how I enjoyed all the ones before, I'd give the new ones a shot.  If not for the sale prices I got them for new, I wouldn't have bought them...

I was about to pick up NeverDead this month also, Best Buy was having a sale on the game for 10 bucks...but after reading it's reviews I decided against it.

Although earlier this month or late last month (I can't remember) I did pick up

Gears of War 3
Resistance 3
Assassins Creed: Revelations
Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City

All 4 of them for 50 bucks since 2 of them were on sale for 10 bucks and the other 2 were 15

All of those games are crap, unfortunately. Don't let the media fool you into thinking otherwise.

Damn, dude!  A bit harsh, eh?  When did Gear of War break into your house and kill a puppy?

You know, we are entitled to our OWN opinions about what we buy without having to be told that it's total crap (or too expensive).

Just so busy all the time.  Plus, I've got a friend going through a nasty divorce and home foreclosure.  In fact, he has 20 days to vacate the dwelling or they'll do it for him.  Been helping him a LOT lately, and boy does he need it.  I just fixed one of his cars today that was a freakin' mess.  Took all day.  At least he can sell it now and get some $$$.

Think of it this way, if I spent more time gaming, then I'd spend a lot less time making covers and coming up with oddball ideas for the gamer world ;)

I suppose it all depends on what you like. I play an hour of some of the newer shooters and I am done for a while. Play a game like skyrim, kingdoms of amalur (both of which I got platinum trophies on, so add up those hours) or xenoblade and next thing I know its 4am. Im even worse with mmos in the past. Now sure, I love me some mario but back in the snes days when for a while I only had like 3 games I beat super mario world just about once a week and now I play mario games when I don't have long to spare or when I know it might be a while since I play again, thats the best part, easy to pick up and play.

To each their own i guess

I've just never been a fan of quest-based rpgs, I guess. Hate WRPGs with a burning passion. JRPGs and SRPGs on the other hand.... forget about it!

Maybe it is a matter of taste, but that still doesn't mean Xenoblade isn't overrated as hell. It's in the same niche as Earthbound, in terms of overrated-ness(Both are also published by Nintendo... might have something to do with it, I dunno).

Fair enough. What continues to truly captivate me in Xenoblade is the world and the settings, which seem so vast in scope and stretch on for miles. I'm the type of person who gets the itch to explore every nook and cranny and experience everything that it has to offer. After I finish with this though, I actually plan on returning to some more traditional RPGs that have been sitting on my shelf for far too long that I have yet to play.

Like any type of experience, what matters most is the individual's opinion. I wouldn't consider the game overrated, but like you said, it's a matter of taste.

(to continue our off-topic thread)

It's definitely a matter of opinion.  I'm sometimes looking for just the opposite of you Pikmin Overlord.  Games like Oblivion can turn me off due to their vastness.  I have about 2 hours logged, put it down and haven't picked it back up.  I guess it's just something about the sheer scope that makes me feel a bit lost and confused and as I like to try and complete all the tasks put forth to me it just feels daunting.  On the other hand, a lot of folks hated the linear nature of FFXIII and that was the first modern retail game that I got 100% achievements on...played it to death.

Let me tell you all something. The in-game world could be the biggest one ever, but if 100% of it is boring and lifeless, then I'm not going to want to explore it.

Also, and I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but I tend to enjoy games with a bright, colorful graphical style(I.E. non-realistic graphics). Out of all the games I've played in my lifetime(And it's a'lot, I assure you), 99% of the games I've enjoyed had a cartoon style to them(Mostly Nintendo games). That 1% includes stuff like Metroid Prime, which while it had realistic graphics, it still had some sense of animated style going for it.

The same is true for movies. 99% of the movies I enjoy are animated features. Live-action just doesn't do it for me most of the time; Just seems lifeless and boring to me to see other people "acting" when there is so much more an animated film/game could offer. :/

So, you guys obviously have different opinions about whatever games you're talking about (haven't read all the posts, too much blah blah for games that I don't play).  You're not going to convince each other to like what the other likes, so maybe just letting it go would be OK at this point.
