I work at a store that deals in used games stuff, and I can tell you we've had people try to sell us game consoles full of roaches.

Well, none in this city! I've never heard of a single cockroach here!

I've seen plenty of cockroaches in Eugene, believe me.  Of course, out here, we just call them "bums."

*rimshot*

Anyway, the main problem with buying games in the Northwest is mold.  Jesus, there's so much water & mold damage to the used games out here!  Games that come in a DVD case usually have covers that are wrinkled from the moisture, and sometimes stuck, in spots, to the outside plastic sleeve.  Just gross.  I've bought cartridges that have mold on the contacts, and labels that are covered in tiny, white, moldy specks.  Hell, even the used CD-based games I buy have moldy patches on the playing surface.

Of course, Eugene being a college town, a lot of the used videogames in the area were likely ditched by the kids moving out, then later found in a dumpster / curbside "free box" by someone else.  Days could go by before someone claimed someone else's unwanted games, and in that time, they've been rained on & soaked.  You can usually tell "dumpster games" when you see them, especially if the seller has a soggy cardboard box full of cartridges, and wants his trade-in value in cash.  I've seen that more times than I care to admit...

I guess I should consider it a blessing that I have never run into a cockroach-infested system?  :o

The cockroaches in the SNES were dead then I opened it. Speaking of things inside of systems, My orange N64 had a broken 1/2 of a pencil inside. I still have no Idea how that got inside it. It seemed to be a running theme from the people I got the stuff from, the gamecube they gave me had a crayon in the disc laser. I think It broke the disc drive, but I think a friend of mine, who I gave it to, got it to work.

That's why kids under 10 should only be allowed to have original Gameboys, and nothing else. You can throw those from a moving vehicle and they'll survive. Anyone else remember that story in Nintendo Power like 25+ years ago about the GB that survived a fire?  Looked like a boiled turd, but still worked. They don't make em like that anymore.

The SNES that I got in that huge lot from my friend had roach shit and spider egg sacs in it. 'Twas an unpleasant cleanup job. Well, not really. I tossed all the parts in the dishwasher and let her rip :)

Still, it was nasty.

If I'm not mistaken, the particular Game Boy that you are thinking of was actually damaged when barracks were bombed during the 1990-1991 Gulf War. It may still be on display at the Nintendo World Store.

I also remember EGM doing a stress test feature on the original Game Boy Advance. Apparently, it could survive a toilet flush.

Yup, that's the one ;D

Boiled turd, just like I remember.  Crazy!

That thing is nearly invincible.  Whenever I see "broken" examples on eBay I just laugh.  So often they need the contrast knob simply turned up/down, a good cart port cleaning, or just have the batteries flipped around and installed correctly.

That gameboy is on display somewhere. I am pretty sure it is remnants of bombing attack or something and it still works.

Reminds me of this I saw some weeks back

GameCubes are invulnerable! You can drop one from a 3-story building and the handle will probably break off! Not to mention the Panasonic Q, You could bomb that and it would survive!

I swear, they purposely make console un-resistant as they are now. Oh man, the hell my cousins old NES went though before it crapped out. Years and years of abuse before I picked it up before they yard saled it. Still worked at the time, but eventually kicked the bucket on its own after pulling it out of the closet to test. Now days, you cant even play your consoles without them breaking. And thats without ever moving it from where it was placed the day it came out of the box.

If you move the Xbox 360 Elite while you're playing a game, the game never works again! Unless you're REALLY lucky!
