. . . More on topic, It is annoying how overpriced some things are. I do not get why Super Mario World is $10, Didn't it come with the SNES? Pokemon games are going for $30, but seem like they should be common. Genesis games seem to be very cheep for the must have games.
Supposedly it's because of supply and demand... but there's a very healthy supply of SMW. Cart-only shouldn't be more than the $8 being charged on Virtual Console. :/

I lucked out and got my current copy at a Goodwill for $3.

Not trying to call you out or anything Larry, like I said more so just a rant. To me, your the exception as you unlike most of these other younger video game collectors, actually know wtf your talking about, that kind of respect to the industry I admire. I watch some of these youtube videos and see some teens doing game hunting videos where they buy games and I hear "oh, never heard of this game, oh well lets get it" I would be willing to bet they just get them to get them yet never play them lol.

I suppose its the same scenario as most anything else, I mentioned music and while I wasn't born in or was young in certain decades I really enjoy the music.

What I am getting at I guess is  does anyone think that this is just the fad currently or something that will continue to progress and get even more inflated?

It did but just think how many people didn't get it as a pack in cos there were so many other great pack ins games: Donkey Kong Country, Yoshi's Island, Killer Instinct, Zelda, Street Fighter 2, Starfox and probably a lot more too.

Yoshi's Island was a pack-in with the SNES?  :o

That could explain why it was one of my first games...

I was like that with some games. I built up my collection from Goodwill, Tag Sales, and that Video Store. I have never heard of a lot of the games I get, but buy them anyway, judging by the box art, but most of them I like. Games like Gods, Lagoon, Castle Quest, Robopon Sun Version and Space Station Silicone Valley. Even the ones I do not like get played occasionally. I had a lot of fun playing Karate Champ for the NES. I got It at Goodwill and when I got home, a freind called asking to come over, when he did we tried out the game in 2P mode. We just busted out laughing when the first match ended with one hit. I even got some play time out of Fisher Price I Can Remember & Perfect Fit, and Sesame Street 123 with a few friends. The think I love about blind buys is just having a new experience. May not be good, but its still fun and there are very few games I regret buying, I think the most disappointing blind buy was Ping Pals for DS I got it for $0.50 at a Tag Sale, there is no game play, Its Pictochat.
I have quite a few friends who are into retro collecting too, so there are more people like me. One has a copy of Earthbound, not sure where he got it, but most likely not on line for 100$.

With the music part, I think you can tell my taste in music.  ;D I got luckey and met a woman in a record store who was trying to trade in her vinyl collection, but he was not taking it. She ended up giving 6 full crates of albums to me, with many good albums including a japan copy of Led Zeppelin 3.

I lucked out and got my current copy at a Goodwill for $3.
I got mine with Super Mario Kart and Mario Paint for $10 or $20 form some guy in my school, SMW is very worn, but the other two are in great condition.

I also managed to find SMK at the same Goodwill, again for $3. Same deal with my current copies of Diddy Kong Racing, Mario Party 2 and Donkey Kong Country.

Best deal though? DKC2, SMRPG, Star Fox 64, Yoshi's Story, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 64, and Pokemon Stadium.

$8 Total from Goozex.com.

I got a game bit and opened it, It was full of cockroaches.

Welcome to my 1996-2003.  Testing used game consoles day in and day out in retail.  So many bug infested systems.  Genesis 1 consoles are the WORST! So many large openings on that damned thing.  I remember someone bringing in a green N64 one day and you could see the roaches crawling around in it.  These people would often look confused when you turned away their trade-ins based on that.  Like it isn't a big deal.  Ick.

You guys shoulda seen eBay in 1998/1999.  Man, the deals that you could score.  Of course this was when money orders and personal checks were about the only means of payment, so getting ripped off was a fairly regular occurrence :-\

I don't even look at a seller's feedback anymore.  I'd rather it be low.  I'll probably get a better price if it is.  If they screw me over, I know Paypal will just give me my money back anyway.  Back in the early days of Paypal, even if you won a dispute, you weren't guaranteed to get your money back.  It was sorta like small claims court; "Great, you won!  Now find a way to get the money on your own, because that's not what we do."

As far as SMW goes, there are probably 20 SMW pack-in systems for every other pack-in game, maybe even more.  Those other pack-ins came much later, for the most part, and many didn't even hit until the SNS-101.

Indeed. Nowadays you're lucky just to get a SMB3 NES cart, or a half decent game. That and the actual cost of shipping is twice what it used to be. I was lucky to get DKC2 and a complete Crash Bandicoot Warped just recently.

Lol the late 90's ebay days for me were interesting. A lot of it was spent buying green day and 311 t shirts as well as selling everquest items before they banned it.

I agree, most times I see a low feedback its some regular joe selling something and in most cases offer the most fair price, unlike the ebay stores with 37812 feedback that sell retail with retarded shipping costs.

I'm so glad Oregon doesn't have cockroaches! lol! I looked at my Genesis model 1 system and see what you mean. The hinges are way loose and it would be super easy for a roach to squeeze in through there. Although, I'd think that SNES Model 1s would be just as much as a problem, the hinge is very tight but the EJECT button wouldn't be a problem for those things.

No no no, look at the back of the Genesis 1.  See how the ports are surrounded by a giant, gaping hole?  I can damn near stick my finger in between the shell and the RF out LOL!  THAT'S where they get in.

Wait, no cockroaches?!  How's that possible?  They can live anywhere.  They're like effin' invincible.

I've been all around Oregon and have never seen one here in my life. I have seen ONE in Nebraska and a boatload of those things that are a little bigger than your thumb in Maui.

You may not see them, but they really do live pretty much everywhere.

Honestly, outside of that job and a few crappy food service jobs, I never see 'em either.  In fact, the last time I saw one was working that job back in 2003.

Well, none in this city! I've never heard of a single cockroach here!
