Finally got around to looking at that second Gen/CD/32X combo that I got. Found this in the 32X.

What on earth is this mod?  I'm not really a huge Sega 16-bit guy, so I don't even have a clue what this mod is (supposed) to be doing. Help a brotha out if you can.

I don't claim to know anything about Sega (and I don't), but what am I looking at, exactly?

Wow, after popping a 2nd unit open and then looking around the web a bit, it would appear that this is how they came. There's a mess of resistors and random wires that are hot glued to the PCB all over the place in these things.  It's like Steve Wozniak made these things in his garage or something. I can't believe Sega put these things on retail shelves like this!  That's ballzy right there.

Looking at that picture I understand your confusion of thinking it was a mod.  :D

I know, right?  How crazy is that?  Man, they really pushed this thing to market in a hurry it seems.  Never seen an off-the-shelf piece of electronics looking like this.

Hey Wiggy, It's not only the 32x, I've had many sega "systems" in pieces because something didn't work. They all seem like a mess to me.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

Well, actually this probably how they got there prophet. They would make these awesome consoles and have to do things like this to cut costs so it wouldn't be so expensive. Yet they still were, thus there downfall. Nintendo is starting to head in this direction...  :-\

If sega had a PROPHET he wasn't very good.  He'd have foreseen the problems that besieged the dreamcast, and they could have reacted quicker and stayed in the hardware market. Lol  ;D
