Hooray! Too bad you didn't have a Rockman game to show it off with like the NGPC

@forte - that was a bit of a bummer, no doubt. I guess I should eventually pick up the few WS Rockman games out there...

@Agon - no prob!  Sorry it took so long. Needed a good reason to pop it back open. Plus, these pics will mean that I won't have to open mine in the future for reference :P

Also, you know where to pull 3V from, right?  I didn't take a pic because it sounded like you had a good handle on that.

that reminds me, how much extra does this draw from the battery life? doesn't matter so much for NGPC since I have a battery pack, but the WSC gets insane batterylife on one AA, wondering how that holds up

You know, I haven't really had a chance to test that yet. I never play mine, and I don't keep batteries in my portables anyway, so every time I do boot it up it's with a different battery (most likely).

Being that it's just one white SMD LED, I can't imagine that it'll affect battery life all that much. Those things are mondo efficient.

not really, i think i lost the file during one of my pc switchovers, might have it on back-up somewhere, however i think when i eventually get around to re-doing the mod i'll probably just do a screen swap and redo the case for a better fit...

...the only stopping point is the cost of the SwanCrystal itself!

Well, when you attack the project, shoot me a pm with a pic of the upper left hand corner of the mother board and I'll circle the CAP that you can pull 3V from, that is, unless I end up modding another one sometime soon.  If so, then I'll make sure to snap a pic for ya ;)

So, just did one of these for a guy on Digital Press.  I've really tweaked the way I do this so that the case now closes completely without the bowing that's normally an issue, plus added a brightness adjustment switch :)

Can't even tell which is modded ;D

Here's the ol' switch-a-roo.

Because I hadn't even thought about it at that point :-\  It wasn't until the backlit GBAs that I thought about adding it to other systems.

I'd like to correct the issue with the inability to completely close the case up on yours.  It's an issue that nobody seems to have seriously looked at before, and it made me absolutely nuts that I couldn't close the case all the way.  That's not my style. I HATE the idea of "half-assing" anything, and that's what it felt like when I started modding the NGPC systems.

It's totally bass-akwards.  The easiest portable to get the front light in to is the Wonder Swan Crystal, which is paper thin.  The GBA is slightly trickier, and is a bit thicker than the WS.  And the NGPC is like as thick as a freakin' Nomad, yet squeezing that light bar and diffuser in there is a total pain in the arse  >:(

Anyway, if you wanna send it back, I'll update the mod so the shell halves completely seat and I'll add a switch if you'd like.  You know I'm not gonna leave my first and favorite customer out to dry.  But you know how it goes being an early adopter; You always get the short end of the stick.  The folks who wait around end up with 2 times the memory, better casing, higher res screens, blah blah blah.  But, unlike apple or anyone else, I'm gonna try and make sure that those updates will benefit my early adopters ;)
