Just wrapped this little guy up.  GBA SP 001 front light, green power LED, and a custom clear blue Pac-Man 4-way restriction ring.

If you know what game this is, then you may be able to guess the owner of this unit ;)

Not that I'm trying to whore myself out, but this is a service that I'll gladly provide for anyone that's interested.  That said, I took some pics along the way so you can get a feel for how I do this sort of thing.

There are 2 "walls" that need to be chopped down, here's one before an encounter with an Xacto blade

And here's what's left :)

A little wiring action

Dirty

Not dirty

What's this?!

Look closely...

Look closelier...

WTF?!  How did I not know about this little goodie?  No matter, I'll just make my own (as well as for the owner of this NGP to better match his particular system).

Into the cup you go, little bastard!

Some blue goop for you

A little resin and dye the next day, and viola!  We have replica part!

Blends in rather well I think :)

Anywho, that's about it.  Now to try and figure out how I'm gonna power a front light in a Swan Crystal with only a single 1.5V AA battery...

I was going to ask about one of these, and a gba with back light when you were showing off your own mods, but thought you had too many other projects going on.  I should have asked, then that little baby might be on its way to me right now.

Definitely interested - what sort of price are we looking at?  ;D

For the Crystal?  The board isn't labeled in such a way that I can find a 3V source or even a ground.  All the leads are numbered :(

It dims the light just a bit.  It's a tad too bright IMO and it tends to wash the screen out.

Bah, had to pull out the volt-meter and poke around a bit.  Found a 3V source though, so front lit WSC is in the works.

Rick, I'll shoot you guys a pm in a bit.  I may have a backlit option after today.  I'll let you guys know...

Wow, that is one sexy NGPC ;) Whoever got that (and loves Mega Man so much) sure is an awesome guy!  8)

Glad you approve, even after my barrage of texts about the stupid power LED.  Man, that turned into an ordeal for me :-\

Also, there's this :P

Although this particular example is actually mine ;D

No, since I don't own one, but I have seen it done with the SP 101 backlight on the web.  Seems relatively straightforward, and there's tons of room in that thing to get the light in there in place of the massive tube that it comes with LOL!

only ever had a crystal, so yeah. a couple of years ago (5 maybe?) a company called mash-mods decided to make front light kits for GBA/GBC, NGPC and WonderSwan/SwanCrystal, by the time i found them they were no longer selling the kits, however they did have installation guides for the kits still up, so i just used that for my SP-001 light install, (their website is long gone) it works perfectly, however i cracked the screen when tightening up, so i should really get a new one and re-do the mod, someday...

anyway, cool! that crystal looks awesome!, glad you figured it out!

Aw man, that sucks about the cracked screen :(

I was surprised how well the SP front light fit. It's sort of a PITA to squeeze it into the NGP which is like 3 times as thick. Go figure LOL!

I think I may add a power LED to the WSC and call it good to go.
