After my tower of power fell earlier this year, I have been short on storage space. Alot of my games, DVDs, and Blus are in boxes, or jammed on a shelf, thats noo good. Now I am unwilling to spend alot of money on shelves made for DVDs, which I feel are ineffective for UGCs as...well on some of my shelves  gives me some wasted space.

I need space. Here are some of the goals I would like to accomplish with this

1) Gain floor space by reducing the amount of furniture. This allows me to gain more room should I need it...obviously.

2) Make something that is easily movable.

and this is what I came up with.

The unit is made of two sections , a drawer and a bookshelf which when stacked would reach 7fit tall. Now Scar how can something that is 7ft tall be easily moveable you dumb ass? First off...HARSH...second; lemmie explain; The unit is in two parts. the Drawer is 2x2x2, and the bookshelf is only 5ft tall 2 ft wide and 1ft deep, which I feel would be able to maneuver in shallow corridor.

Now the idea is to build 4 sets of these, lining them up side by side.

The Drawer would service for storage for either clothing to get rid of my dresser, and extra drawer for storing of gaming muffins.

not only would this be used to store my gaming goodness, but BDs, DVDs, Books and my collection of LPs, getting rid of 4 pieces of furniture.

thats kinda what I did. I moved all my movies out of this particular room....just games. I also didn't bother seeing how much room I NEEDED for the Hint books....A-R is in the room S-Z is still in the other room.

The original plan was to have the systems in the middle (notice the bottom sticks out more on that tower) However I also didnt check all my cable lengths....not enough slack.

Doggie/Kitty door FTW!

Whenever me and my girlfriend move in together, my game room will NOT be having a doggie/kitty door. Those little shitheads... ;)

I like our cats cat.  The girl Cat dies a couple weeks ago...she was only 5. Anyway...now that my wife and I have a child the other cat wants little to do with us so the pet door is rarely used.  The other 2 cats that live in the house with us need to just die already....my father in-law's girlfriend's cats. annoying stupid things.  There will soon b e gates up for this room....all the games are in here....i dont care much if he gets his grubby hands on the DVDs

I went to menards to price materials.

over $700 to do five cases.

over $300 without the Drawers. (I've got 99 problems, and MDF IS one)

If anyone can find a Book case that can hold 480 DVDs, be less than 2 ft wide, and less than $65, I want to know.

If you wanna do it for even less, then just buy 1x8" at your local Home Depot/Lowes and they'll cut it to any length you want. Way cheaper, and you can stain it, lacquer it, spray paint it, whatever you want.

Do you really want them to be 12" deep?!  If you're just gonna put games on em, then 8" is more than enough for ANYTHING.  And again, it's cheaper with less material ;)

if you get the 1x6 boards they hold UGC, DS and DVD cases perfectly. Cd has a very very small overhang. Thas what I used on my 3 towers. I used 1x12 on the bottom for the books. and 1x10 on the top for the slight overhang to hold the odd things.

Ick. Cutting chipboard is no fun.  Are you seriously planning on doing that?

If I can not find a board smaller, yes. But Menards is peculiar....not everything in the store is on the page so there very well could be properly sized shelves in store.
