I think you need to get the Giant's Knife first and then break it

Nope, but you recieve already broken sword as part of the quest.

But if you bring your broken Giant's knife to the same Goron (or was it the Goron who originally sells yopu the breaking sword) he will fix it but it will brake again.

Both are as strong, but the other (Giant's knife) keeps breaking but you get it earlier from inside the Goron world.
The unbreaking one is called Giant Goron's sword and you recieve it at the end of the switch side quest.

I'll just leave this right here and then leave the troll alone from now on.

Unsolicted Advice

Arseen, Isn't it called Biggoron's Sword?  Although, that may be a language difference thing...

Thaaaaat's right, thanks for clarifying! It's clearly been too long since I played through that game. I think it's time to put my gold cart to use.  :D
I'm looking for vol. 2, 4, and 5 of the Orchestral Game Music Concert CDs. I'll pay well if it's authentic and doesn't skip. :)

Yeah it is - he was talking about the other two handed sword you get that keeps breaking, two different swords in the game. I was thinking the Giant's Knife was involved in getting Biggoron's Sword, but the two aren't related. Although I could have sworn that you can use the broken Giant's Knife in the trading quest to get Biggoron's Sword...

Yeah, the giant's knife is required to have the Biggoron's Sword forged.  I can't remember the exaact details of the fetch quest (because I absolutely HATE them), but I'm about 99.9% sure it was what eventually became the Biggoron's sword.

The giants knife (the one you can buy and it breaks after a few uses) was never needed to complete the trading quest.  Through trading you would eventually get the broken biggoron's sword from the leader of the carpenters and that's what was used for the unbreakable biggoron's sword.  The quest was a pain, but in all my playthrough's I would always go get it before defeating phantom ganon in the forest temple and never bothered with the breakable version :\

You get broken sword from the boss of the carpenter's.
I don't remember is it called broken Giant's knife or broken Biggoron's sword.
Anyway it's not your broken sword, the one you buy from the other Goron inside the Goron world, but the one you get from the carpenter boss, that you uise in the swwp quest.

Huh, my mistake then.  Been a solid decade or so since I've played it, and I guess it shows :P

This is what I said but superchop was faster and said it more clearly. ;D

No excuses.
Zelda games are such classics that all true players must remember all the secrets by heart. ;)
And must be played at least once a year.

As superchop said, you're correct, Arseen. You get the broken sword from the Carpenter in the trading quest, and that's what turns into Biggoron's Sword. The Giant's Knife is an entirely different sword that breaks after a few swings. Two different broken swords in the same game, heh heh.

So technically, you could have two different broken swords in your inventory at one time.  ;D

Just for kicks, here's the full procedure...

- The Cuckoo Lady in Kakariko Village will give you an egg which will hatch with new daylight. Use the chicken to wake up Talon, in the house by the steps to Death Mountain. Return the chicken afterward, and the Lady will give you a blue rooster, Cojiro.

- Take Cojiro to the Skull Kid's post in the Lost Woods, where a boy is sleeping. He'll trade the bird for a Mushroom.

- Hop on Epona, and ride quickly back to Kakariko Village. An old witch lives behind the potion shop; she'll make a potion from the Mushroom.

- Return to the Lost Woods, and a Kokiri girl will be where the Skull Kid was. She'll give you the Carpenter's Saw.

- Visit the Head Carpenter in Gerudo Valley (you'll need to jump the broken bridge with Epona). He'll give you the Broken Goron's Sword.

- The giant Biggoron lives on the top of Death Mountain. When you show him the Sword, he'll give you a Prescription.

- Use a bottle of Blue Fire on King Zora at his domain, to release him from Red Ice. He'll give you a Bullfrog.

- Race to Lake Hylia on Epona's back, and show the Bullfrog to the Lab Scientist. He'll give you some Eye Drops.

- Race back to the top of Death Mountain in less than 4 minutes, and give the drops to Biggoron. He'll award you a Claim Check, and ask you to return in a few days.

- Wait three days, or play the Sun's Song six times, and show the Claim Check to Biggoron. He'll give you the finished and unbreakable Biggoron's Sword.

Bah, that game's too big to play too often.  I can beat 1 and 3 with my eyes closed and 1 hand tied behind my back though ;)
