Most Prized In Collection - What you got + How Much $$?

Pages: << < (9/25) > >>

AO007:

There are people that willingly pay $60 for games that are arguably worth 1/4 of that. (Referring to current-gen games mostly)

I would much rather pay $60 for a good old game than $60 for a crappy new one. Just because it's new doesn't mean it's good. In fact, one could argue that part of the reason that some game sretain their value is because they're proven to be, well... GOOD.

Forte:

Most I've ever paid for a game: $300 dollars on Mega Man (Game Gear).  This game is a pain in the ass to find complete, probably the hardest in the NTSC collection outside of Mega Man V for Game Boy. Luckily, I sold my extra cart and manual for 125 bucks so that helped eat into the cost (paid 30 for them).

Second Most I've ever paid for a game: $300 for Rockman Collection (PS1 & PS2). Not so much a game as a box set of 7 games (Rockman Complete Works 1-6 and Rockman X7) sealed in box.

Most prized game in my collection: Mega Man 9 Press Kit. I know, not a game. But I got this from Capcom.com for 50 dollars during a limited release (50 or 100) and was very happy my order went through. I still even have the box they shipped it to me in and the packing slip!

Runner-up for most prized game: Mega Man: The Wily Wars. I got this on ebay with a Mega Key (allows PAL play on NTSC consoles) for 54 dollars shipped. Awesome deal, awesome game. Definitely one of my favorites.

Who exactly am I deliberately insulting or offending? I said that people who make such decisions are behaving foolishly, but I'm not being malicious toward anyone personally. If my statements upset people, sorry, but I'm not responsible for their reactions. The same also holds true the other way, but lots of folks in the world don't know how to criticize the choice instead of the person.

Deliberate, malicious, and personal are NOT in any of my posts.  There's this word known as "neglect".  Look it up, because you clearly don't understand its implication in my post(s).

This is a forum, not a country.  Freedom of expression is NOT a given here, the same as it wouldn't be in somebody's house, a restaurant, or any other privately owned property/space, virtual or physical.

If we were in a shop together and I had just spent $100 on a game, would you immediately come over and site my purchase as foolish?  I really, REALLY doubt it.  So maybe doing so here isn't the best plan either.

The way of the world is that things in higher demand,  command higher prices (designer clothes, electronics, food at high class restaurants, even supermarkets) some of us will pay those prices for things we want -  you (moviefan) obviously won't.

I assume from your comments about how stupid it is to pay more for something in demand,  that you don't eat at nice places,  you never buy designer goods, and you are using an old CRT tv, or at least a non branded LCD?  If that's your ethos, then great, at least we now know - and you can stop preaching it in every damn thread.  If its not your ethos, and you only apply this logic to game collecting, then why the hell are you here? And that is a rhetorical question by the way,  I'm really not interested in any response. :)

Not when I can get the same things (or a close equivalent) for much cheaper.

Well, obviously you are, because otherwise you'd have left that last sentence alone. I'm mostly a man of simpler tastes; I'd like to have more money, but not so much that I didn't know what to do with it. I'd want enough to live comfortably, but not extravagantly, and to help those I love to do the same. I'd want to be a blessing to others, instead of keeping everything myself.

Now, here's my question for you: how does any of that information relate to my statements about game prices? Wiggy mentioned the word "neglect", and I admit I've done that with some things in my life...but how is that an accurate description for everything else? I don't deliberately intend to hurt people, but I won't apologize for being politically incorrect. I do my best to say what I mean, and mean what I say; its easier that way.
