Most Prized In Collection - What you got + How Much $$?
Pikmin Overlord:
The price issue is something that, as a collector, you have to accept. If you really cherish what it is that you collect, then the price you pay will always be less of a factor.
However, I think I can understand where Moviefan2k4 is coming from, and I'm relatively sure that most of us, as collectors, have reflected his feelings at one time or another. Unless you collect with the sole purpose of turning a profit in the future, then there must have been a time when you simply wished that all games were priced at $5 each so that you could acquire all of your favourites. The Mega Man 5s would cost no more than the Bases Loaded 2s, and life as someone whose joy is derived simply from building up his game library would be pretty sweet. $5 for Little Samson? Sign me up!
Sadly, that's not the reality of the situation. As stated over and over, supply and demand plays a large role in these prices. Now, perhaps Moviefan2k4 takes the following position: "If people didn't pay these outrageous prices, then the prices themselves would inevitably have to come down." I know I've had similar thoughts in the past. Eventually though, if you plan on collecting games, then that's a reality you have to face. Unfortunately, it means that people like Moviefan2k4 who aren't necessarily "collectors" but have an interest in purchasing a game to play, end up suffering as a result.

How would you like it if we all replied sighting a decision of yours as "absurd" or "foolish"? People pay more than 20 bucks for games sometimes. Get over it.

Who exactly am I deliberately insulting or offending? I said that people who make such decisions are behaving foolishly, but I'm not being malicious toward anyone personally. If my statements upset people, sorry, but I'm not responsible for their reactions. The same also holds true the other way, but lots of folks in the world don't know how to criticize the choice instead of the person.
AO007:
I collect games to play. So having to fork over $100+ for a game doesn't sit right with me.
However, I feel as long as the game doesn't exceed its original MSRP, and has been proven to be a great game, then it's "reasonable".
For example, it wouldn't be right to see a game like the original Crash Bandicoot sell for 50 cents, while something like Jet Moto sells for $10. I think that should be the other way around(And thankfully that seems to be the case).
At the same time, $100 for something like Earthbound or Shantae, especially a cart-only copy, is ridiculous even if I happened to like the games.
My favorite game of all time, Yoshi's Island SNES, only demands like $15-$20 cart-only, and probaly 5x that much for a complete copy.
Supply & Demand is a factor, but in some cases even ONE transaction could change the price dramatically.
To add to all this is the luck factor. People can get lucky and find stuff like Earthbound or Shantae at a pawn shop for dirt cheap because they don't know what they have is valuable, although I find that as the years pass, it becomes harder and harder to "score" at pawn shops, probaly due to people picking them up over the years. A few years ago I could find valuable SNES and N64 games rather easily, but over the past year or so it's gotten quite difficult to find anything even remotely decent.

Dude, why do you even post in these types of threads? Is it just to antagonize people?

Not at all, but the way I figure it, if folks are willing to mention how they pay tons of cash for a game, then I should have the same freedom to make my stance known against it. Even if I had $100 or more to spend on each game I wanted, I'd still look for the cheapest deal; its called being sensible. On average, I could probably get between 7 & 10 Blu-Ray movies for $100, maybe even more...so anyone spending the same amount on a 20-year-old game cartridge sounds very foolish to me.

someones going the right way for a ban hammer
Moviefan2k4:
What good reason would anyone have for banning me, when I haven't been threatening or insulting people? Last time I checked, freedom was not just awarded to people who always agree with one another.
