What about my s-video consoles?  Can I use RGB converters and SCART cords to improve these:  SNES, N64, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PSOne

SNES is RGB native, N64 can be modified for RGB, Saturn is RGB native, Dreamcast you can do either RGB or VGA (VGA is the better option) and PSOne is RGB native.

You just have to get the cables for each. A seller who sells all those cables is currently away, but I'll link them once she lists them again.

And since they're all SCART, you need a switch box, I'll see if I can find the one I have.
What is the switch box for?  Won't I need a switch box for my 32X then too?  I do not want to mod the N64.  Can't I just but cables for it?

Well if you want all the RGB capable consoles hooked up at one time then a switch box is the easiest thing to do. If not then you can just unhook the cable from the SCART to YUV convertor for each console when you wanna use them.

And no you can't. Nintendo didn't make the leads from the video chip to the AV port so that's why you need to mod it, but it's a simple mod as long as you have an early model. If you don't want to then S-Video still gives a pretty good image for the N64.

When you say switch box are you referring to these?  Because this is what I use for my PS2, GCN, and Wii and plan on using more for my RGB's:

Right, but SCART is a different connector, so you need a different switch box for it, like this:

Honestly, when it comes to advanced connections like this, I really wish I Portal guns were real so I could just go to your house and show you how to do it, it's much easier than trying to put it into words.

Oh it is? Then that would require a mod then.

It can be modded for RGB as well, it's just as simple as the S-video mod. Just wire up the RGB and sync lines from the encoder to the AV out along with 75 ohm resistors, one per signal. If you don't use the 75 ohm resistors the video will look washed out.

There are a scant few SNES-001 units that can be modded for component.  Maybe you should try and hunt one of those down first so you don't have to mess with SCART and converters AND switches.

Based on what I've seen, only the boards with "SNS-CPU-GPM-01" have the ability to output component.  There's no way to tell what board is in a SNES without popping it open AND removing the shielding, so finding one is a crapshoot unless your local retro store is kind enough to let you sit there and pop open their stock of SNS-001s :-\

Actually the board revision isn't a good indicator of that, you have to figure out what type of video encoder it uses. The two you want to look for are the BA6592F and the BA6594AF, with the latter being easier to mod.

But based on what I've read ONLY that revision has the correct encoder. I've got 2 dozen SNES boards here and none have that chip, and none are the specific revision that seems to have it :(

I've seen a few SHVC-CPU-01 boards that had both encoders. My Super Famicom has the BA6592 and I modded an SNES for someone that had the BA6594AF. Both have the SHVC-CPU-01 board.
