I need to know, if I use an s-video cord that has 4 male parts:  yellow, red, white, plus the black s-video; and I plug in all four, will my TV display the Composite yellow or the Black S-video?

Before you state the obvious which would be just to leave the yellow unplugged, please note I have 13 consoles and have to use multiple video selectors so I really just need my question answered honestly as that is the way I would have to hook my s-video consoles up.

So the question is, with both the yellow AND black s-video male parts plugged in, which video will I get?  Standard Composite, or S-video?

You just couldn't post in to the other S-video topic? :P

If I undestood correctly you are planning on using a selector?

You can connect both the yellow and the S-video cable of the selector.

But I'd suggest just connecting the consoles to the selector with one or the other.

You can't just connect both.  Often times that'll freak the TV out and you'll get nothing for video.  Plus, why would you hook both up anyway?  Just hook up what you're gonna use.

He said he is gonna use selectors.

Lke I said: He can connect both plugs from the selector to TV, and connect consoles to the selector using either one or the other.

Selector should only let one consoles signal thru at one time, so now screwing the signal.
Or to be on safe side only have one console on at the time

It sounds to me like he's asking whether or not he can leave both plugged in for the same system and what signal the TV will use if so, regardless of switch boxes.

Well t is one way to understand but my answer stands.

Selector -> TV = both.
Console ->  selector = one or the other, S-video suggested, if not available then use yellow plug. Not both.

This is my set-up:

My NES 2 (Modded for composite), SNES 2, N64, and PsOne go into this device:

http://mobiledjbusiness.com/video_switcher.html

My SMS2 (Modded for composite), 32X, Saturn, and Dreamcast go into another unit (same exact product)

From the Outputs of the two units, a Composite cable (Red, White, Yellow) goes out to this device so that I can switch between the 2 main units:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Radio-Shack-2-Way-Audio-Video-Selector-Switch-Model-15-1982-USED-Works-Great-/330766759511?pt=US_Splitters_Combiners&hash=item4d033c3657

From that A/B unit, the Output goes to my HD Upscaler, the DVDO EDGE.  From the EDGE, an HDMI cable goes to my TV to display the picture.

Notice that I only INPUT the S-video into the 5-way switcher...  I output using standard composites from there on because that A/B switch does not have an S-video out nor in...  so idk what the hell I'm getting.

So the 4-way switchers are connected to the A/B selector.

To where is the 5 -way switcher connected?

There are only two 5-way switchers....  I don't have any 4-ways.  Look again, please.

OK, it looked like the switchers were 4 in / 2 out, but they are 5 in / 1 out.

Does your upscaler have S-video in? if yes just update your A/B selector to model that has S-video in/out.

Then Use S-video cables for those consoles that can use them, and yellow for the others.

-------------------------------

And as your TV has HDMI I assume it has VGA too? If yes, get VGA box for the dreamcast.

S-VIDEO: Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, PS1 > SWITCH A (AUDIO ONLY) > DVDO EDGE > TV

The S-VIDEO connector will go directly to the DVDO EDGE.

COMPOSITE: NES2, SMS2, 32x, SNES 2 > SWITCH B > DVDO EDGE > TV

My SNES2 is being modded for s-video Wednesday.  Can you update that again?  Also, I have my PS2, NGC, and Wii hooked up through a component selector.  I actually use a 2nd A/B switch to flip between audio b/c the EDGE only has on audio input for composite audio.

Just move NES from Switch B (component consoles) to Switch A (S-video consoles).
Otherwise do as zakurowrath said.
No need to update the A/B selector.

I mean SNES not NES

S-VIDEO: Dreamcast, Saturn, N64, PS1, SNES2 > DVDO EDGE S-VIDEO IN > HDMI OUT TO TV

L/R (White/Red) Audio: Saturn, N64, PS1, SNES2 > "A" Input on "A/B SWITCH 1" > "A" Input on "A/B SWITCH 2" > DVDO EDGE STEREO INPUT > HDMI OUT TO TV

COMPOSITE (YELLOW) : NES2, SMS2, 32x > DVDO EDGE COMPOSITE IN> HDMI OUT TO TV

L/R (White/Red) Audio: NES2, SMS2, 32x > "B" Input on "A/B" SWITCH 1 > "A" INPUT on "A/B" SWITCH 2 > DVDO EDGE L/R STEREO INPUT > HDMI OUT TO TV

COMPONENT VIDEO (RED, GREEN, BLUE) PS2, GC, WII > Component Switch > COMPONENT IN DVDO EDGE > HDMI OUT TO TV

L/R (White/Red) Audio: PS2, GC, WII > Component Switch > "B" INPUT on "A/B" SWITCH 2 > DVDO EDGE L/R STEREO INPUT > HDMI OUT TO TV

Optional: PS2 Audio TOSLINK (Optical) to OPT 1 on DVDO EDGE > HDMI OUT TO TV

Correct me zakurowrath if my plan is flawed.

For easiest switching he should buy 3 in / 1 out Audio selector.

Then the connections would be:

Unit A (the Composite consoles: SMS2, 32-X & NES2) Yellow blug to DVD0 EDGE's composite input. Audio to 3 way audio selector
Unit B (the S-video Consloes: SNES2, Dreamcast, N64, PS1 & Saturn) S-video plug to DVD0 EDGE's S-video input.  Audio to 3 way audio selector
Unit C (the Component consoles: PS2, NGC & WII) to DVD0 EDGE's Component input.  Audio to 3 way audio selector

And finally  Audio to 3 way audio selector to DVD0 EDGE's Audio input.
Or you can still use the 2 A/B switches for the Audio, just connecting the Videos directly to DVD0 EDGE.

EDIT: fixed typo.
