Mega Man X rant

Yeah, the defeating of certain bosses impacting other bosses is something I'm almost positive is another aspect that makes Megaman X1 unique. It's a cool idea that wasn't carried on for whatever reason. For many years I didn't even realize there was a ton of lava etc in Flame Mammoth's stage because I would always go after Chill Penguin first.

Sometimes I go to Chill's stage to get the Dash capsule, and then deliberately die so I am taken back to the stage select and from there go after Flame Mammoth or whoever else first.

MAN I love Megaman X.

--- Quote from: larryinc64 on July 23, 2012, 02:54:44 AM ---I recently got a copy of Mega Man X for the SNES from a friend recently, It was free. I have never really sat down and play a Mega Man game before, minus Mega Man 64 and I just now started to play it and I came into it with high expectations because of all the praise I heard for it. I begin to play it for around a hour and quit due to how frustrating the game is.

Mega Man controls well but he can only shoot forward, but not all enemies are directly in-front of you. Some swoop down from the sky and some are slightly to tall, and the place you shoot is a few pixels above the bullet when standing. With some, you can charge and that makes your bullet bigger, but a lot of the time you have no time to do it, so it becomes a game of rapidly jumping and shooting in place. If you are surrounded, like I got a few times with floating pink things in the intro stage, your screwed, your only hope is to jump and shoot and hope your life does not run out.

The previous thing would not be as big of a problem if it was not for this one flaw that makes the game more difficult than it has to be, and that is re-spawning enemies. The enemies have a place in the stage where they spawn. If you kill one and scroll the screen away from the spawn point and put it back into frame, it re-spawns. There were many times where a enemy would spawn and come after me and I was not in a good place to shoot it so i move back a little bit and kill it. I continue onward and the enemy immediately re-spawns, so I have to move back and kill it, and it re spawns again, and again and again and you are basically forced to just run past it and take a hit or memorize where these areas and Charge a head of time to get a bigger chance of hitting it from a distance if possible.
Some notable areas of this problem:
Intro stage: There was a part with flying pink things and another soon after with cars where they just gang up on you because it forces you to move around to combat them and as you move the ones you just killed re-spawn.
Chill Penguin: The snow balls rolling at you. There is a pit with one on the top, If you fall in the pit and wall jump up, the ball falls and hits you, knocking you down, where you jump back up and it re-spawns and hits you again, so you fall...

I played through the intro stage, started Bommer Kawander, but could not get past the first enemy, so I thought I needed another robots weapon, so I when to the forest stage and got to the boss and almost immediately died every time I got to the boss, so I figured I need another weapon, I when to Chill Penguin for the hell of it, Got the speed boots thing, and got to the boss, got some good hits but died a few times and then just rage quit.

It's annoying going through a stage to find out you do not have the right weapon to defeat the robot master, Chill penguin seems like you can defeat him with nothing special but by that time I was to irritated and could not concentrate. The gecko guy, whatever his name is, is nearly imposable, his attacks are hard to dodge with out the dash, which I did not have yet.

So tell me why is this game considered a flawless gem with that one major problem with the re-spawning? The other two I could overlook, but that problem makes the game very irritating.

Are you serious? So because enemies arent right in front of you and you actually might have to jump and shoot them... its a bad game? Because youve not yet figured out that there is no reason not to be charging your shot... its a bad game? Because you cant dash jump a pit and the snowball keeps hitting you.... its the games fault? Because you cant take the time to figure out whos weapon beats which boss easiest... its the games fault? (also keep in mind you can defeat most bosses, including the gecko, with just the start weapon... but its hard.)

What I get from your rant is that you want a super easy game where you dont have to think or discover anything. You want the skill level to be so low that the enemies practically die for you and hardly ever attack you. Perhaps classic games are not for you. Whatever you do... dont pick up a NES and Ninja Gaiden (The developers purposely set up that whole get hit and fall in a pit trap in almost every stage). Never play Mega Man 1 (there is no save or password feature and you still need to figure out the pattern/ kill things that swoop down at you). And for the sake of sanity.... dont let anyone talk you into trying Silver Surfer (You dont want to know what bad game design and insanely difficult are all about).
