40 hours of sitting caused blood clots?  ::)

Either way, that's pretty sad news.

As much as I love gaming, I don't know how you can play a new game for more than 10 hours straight. Eventually you'll get tired and need sleep. I couldn't imagine how this guy felt at the 30 hour mark.

In the article it said that because he was so concentrated on the game he forgot about everything like needing water instead of the next level.

even if im concentrating hard on , Halo, for example, i still need to eat/sleep/drink/use the toilet. after 6-7 hours i start getting a mild headache, which is my bodys way of saying i need to stop and sleep.
which makes me think these guys who die after 30+ hour gaming sessions must be taking something...

I suppose it depends. While I love my consoles I have been a PC gamer most my life , pretty hardcore on several MMO's (no, not WOW)and still play the hell out of TF2 today.

That said, while I cannot fathom doing 40 hours straight I have done some ridiculous stints of time, especially on mmo expansion releases  in the upwards of 24 hours straight, heck D3 I played just about that.

This too all depends on work schedule and my overall ability to do so, sure I do a lot of sitting but I also get up, walk around, watch a few minutes of tv, grab a bite to eat etc, you know move the muscles a tad.

Clots @40 hours sure, several factors can attribute to this such as that person's weight, position of sitting, type of chair they were sitting on etc.

What the article describes as 'clots' will have been DVT,  deep vein thrombosis.  Small locaised clots which you can get by (for example) sitting in the same position for too long.  The problem arises when you subsequently get up and move, and the clots get freed and move around the body.  Same reason yOu should always try to move around on a long flight.
