I would deffinetly say that I'm both.

I always want my games to be in the best shape I possibly can. I have a few duplicates. When I come across good games I always make sure that I take the best parts of the duplicates to make "the best and most complete" copy I can. That way I can have the best for my collection and I sell/trade the second/third/forth best etc.

But then I also love to play my games, if I'm not working or busy I'm most likely gaming. I also don't like to pay alot for what I get. There is times to where I'll buy one close to asking price but not very often. I'll normally play a game till I either I master it or just beat it. Sometimes until I just get bored with it.

You got to have the ones that stray away from the statistics lol.
What are you looking at? You think baby's don't like video games? THEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT BABIES!!

When I think C/G (I'm gonna abbreviate that shit from now on, too much of a PITA to type it out every time, especially on my stupid phone) I think "reseller".  You know, the guys that are collecting because they're either trying to resell right now, or that are planning on it being their retirement fund.

Forte is obviously collecting what does because he's an obsessed fan with a little extra scratch to throw around.  I think we've all made purchases that were only to help complete a series or just because we knew that it'd just be really cool to have.  For me, one item I can think of right off the top of my head is FF8.  I knew I hated it when I bought it, but when you own 1-7 & 9-10, it seems shitty to have that one title missing.  That, and I got it for like 5 bucks sealed about a zillion years ago just after everyone realized that it was crap (if you feel differently about it, then I'm sorry, I just can't stand it).

Maybe we need 3 categories?  G/C, C/G, and C/R (Collector/Reseller).

i wont buy games just to complete a series, if its crap i aint gonna buy it, it would just take up space that could be occupied by a good  game (one that i would play)

arent we up to 4 now? Ghetto-collector too! (Gh/C) lol!

I'd rather not lump the majority of us in with "resellers" as those people piss me off, quite frankly. They tend to exploit people like us who are in it for the love of gaming/collecting.

Now, allow me to make a distinction here. I do not feel any animosity what so ever towards those who tend to buy their games in lots and then pick out the few that they want to keep and turn around and sell (or trade) the rest. If part of what they buy goes towards their own collections, that's fine by me. I'm even ok with people buying games in order to try and complete a collection with the intention of selling their collection in the future. However, if they simply buy a sack full of games for a dollar with the express purpose of turning around and selling them for what they are "worth," then screw them. Allow others who actually care about the games to rescue them and love them.

I'm also aware that there are exceptions to my "resellers are evil" rule (one fellow I buy from continues to empty boxes upon boxes of games from storage and sells them for relatively fair prices) but for the most part, they are a big problem and induce headaches.

Ahh, sorry scarmullet, but that's my opinion based on my own experience. As I said though, there are those who are exceptions. Also, I am still enraged by being beat to a large amount of snes games by a reseller on the weekend. Such resellers just tend to cause me a lot more grief than joy.

Resellers are a tricky subject for in many cases if they don't do it another one will. It is however infuriating to go to a place to get a deal and hear "oh, one guy came in here and bought 20 copies" etc. Or, those who completely spoil a deal due to their selfishness.

There are also those resellers that buy up inventory at flea markets just to jack it up for more and to that, those people that buy from those are idiots.

I have to say I lean more towards the middle. I'm ultra picky about my condition but I also play them :) I take every effort to keep my collection in the nicest order too... ^^; I like being able to find my things k ;)

Do i'm picky about my games mmm... let's look at my MMX3 cartridge:

This picture should say it all  ;D

I'm a G/C if  a game it's been there for 6 months and i don't have the intention to finish it it will be selled or traded for another game. When i buy in lots i sell/trade the ones i don't want and i keep the rest for me.

I found myself a reseller that buy's games FROM ME and then put them online for 2x the price... i hate that guy now.

Well I care about the condition of my games; I accept anything "good" and above when buying, I try to get games complete whenever possible, and at least with PS1 games, I try to go for Black Label if the disc is in full-color.

Put me in G/C.

I'd say I go through phases where I collect more than I play and then it flips and I play more than I collect.

I'm currently playing more right now.

I just recently started reselling (using online classifieds) and have made about $900 in the last few months and I'm not really that aggressive or spending too much time on it.

My main goal is to try and make my collecting cash neutral so that If I am going to spend a ridiculous amount of $$ on a game then it has to come from reselling profit.  I'll also buy lots if there are items I want to keep and then resell the rest to break even.

My other goal is to get games in the hands of those who want them and will play them so my prices are usually pretty low as my goal is to sell quickly, make a profit, and either buy more for my collection or more to resell.

One example was finding an SNES with a bunch of games, including the 3 Donkey Kong Country games.  Most resellers in my area would ask $20 for the first 2 and $25-$30 for the third one.

I listed them at $40 and they were sold right away.  After selling everything and keeping what I wanted I was up about $60 which went into the gaming fund while selling everything at what I consider to be fair prices.

I also got Metroid Prime Trilogy in a lot and let it go for $60.  My cost on it was next to zero so I was happy to make a quick $60 and the person buying it was happy to have it.

One issue I have run into is other resellers buying stuff off of me and trying to sell it for more.  I hate that because I want the games in the hands of those that will play them.

I found Zelda: Collector's Edition for Gamecube at a yardsale for $1 complete and mint.

I already had a copy so I checked ebay and saw people were asking $50-$100 plus shipping so I listed it at $40 and got offered $30 to deliver it and it happened to be on the way home from the yard sale so I sold it.  Then the guy had it up for sale 5 mins later for $50.

Needless to say I won't sell anything to him anymore and I make sure that if I am selling anything that he has I undercut him.

This was 2 months ago and he still hasn't sold it so I'm glad he's tied $30 of his money up for that long and still hasn't sold it.

As for completeness and condition my preference is to collect as the games were "meant" to be kept.

for NES, SNES, N64, etc. or any system that came in a cardboard box, I go for cart and manual only as I have no interested in trying to look after the condition of cardboard.  I honestly think that the packaging was made cheap and was meant to be thrown out.  I'll buy CIB if I come across it as I have a friend who collects CIB so I usually just give him the boxes.

For PS1, PS2, Gamecube, and current gen, etc. I only want complete with a case and manual.  I also go for the original release i.e. not Greatest Hits or Player's Choice.

Only problem I have with your post is that you willingly sold SNES copies of the Donkey Kong Country games. >:/

Kinda odd how DKC3 is usually the most expensive, seeing as it's the one people like the least. I guess it coming out after the Nintendo 64 impacted it a bit(It still managed to become a Player's Choice, much like the previous entries)

for last gen. and current gen. thats what i go for too, although im not bothered about original/greatest hits/players choice etc. i just make up a new cover,

anything else, for me, as long as it works, im fine with that too, ive been playing games for a long time now and the only time i even look at the manual is if im board!

(right, time to give wiggy nightmares over in the "random gaming photos" thread!)
