I am having myself a Mega Man marathon over here, playing 1-10 in the original series.  Glad I got to part 4 last night where Mega Man gets the Mega Buster!

Does anyone have any idea why the hell MM 9 and 10 took away the mega buster and the slide move?!  It really bugs the shit out of me.  That would be like SEGA taking away Sonic's spin dash for Sonic 4.  Thoughts anyone?  Since MM9 is the sequel to 8 it is unrealistic to think that Mega Mam lost his powerful charger.  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

They took it out to make mega man the game it used to be. Aka "Not Easy" real gaming skill will be needed. Good luck.

Nott unrealistic.
Mega Man is a robot.
All mechanical things break eventually.
Since upgraded version (Mega Man X) exsists, it'ss not necessarily practical moneywise to fix the old crap. ;)

It doesn't make any sense, no. But, they give (sell) you Protoman in Mega Man 9 and give you Protoman and give (sell) you Bass in Mega Man 10 to make up for it. So storywise I wish they had kept them, but gameplay wise I can play properly with another offered character.

I agree that it's pretty lame that they stripped 'em of those two features. Doesn't make sense to me. If they want it to be more difficult, then make it more difficult. Stripping features feels like a step backwards (yes, I know they are both technically a "step backwards" since we went from 8, to 16, to 32, then back to 8-bit).

No luck needed, I've beaten both a few times...  Just not looking forward to the loss of the mega buster once I get to part 9 again in a few days.  I think it was a real stupid thing to get rid if it.  Mega Man became more popular with MM3, 4 and so on.  In 3 I think he gets the slide (maybe 2), but 4 is when he gets the mega buster and keeps it through part 8.

I would have been okay with the removal of the charge shot and slide if they could be unlocked after you finished the game. That being said, 9 and 10 (especially 10) are among the best Megaman games ever produced, so I can't complain too much.

I thought they were the worst...  especially 9.  Have you played the original 1-8?

I agree with you as they are very challenging and bring me back to Mega Man 2 which is a fav of mine although very easy.

Except X is locked away into a capsule, and judging from Dr. Light's health in the Maverick Hunter X/Day of Sigma stuff, isn't close to being complete yet, since Dr. Light seems a fair bit healthier than he does then.

But honestly, it annoys the ever-living hell out of me, not because they took them away, but did so without giving a reason.  A line of two of text somewhere in the intro, in a cutscene, stating that the modules were being upgraded, or even that they had broken, or something.  Otherwise, to me, it gives the feeling that Mega Man is basically becoming a jerk, i.e. "I don't even need to use this stuff to beat Wily."  I get that they were trying to emulate MM2, but seriously, let the past stuff die now, please?  I don't want another 8-bit Mega Man or 16-bit Mega Man X, I want a 2D Mega Man game with some nice high resolution sprites, like we've actually made some bloody progress in the last twenty years...  I get that it is nostalgic, but really, in my opinion, it cheapens the brand.

9 is pretty terrible (insane stage design that necessitates Rush Jet, but somehow they expect you to clear 5 stages before he's unlocked, bland stages, overpowered weapons, almost no backgrounds (seriously, look how many stages are just black backgrounds))..the only thing it has going for it is the Wily Stages music and Wily Machine 9 music. Mega Man 10 kicks ass though with more balanced weapons, awesome stage design, awesome bosses, three playable characters...I never get tired of MM10, it's right up there with 2 and 3 as one of the best.

They are!  satoshi_matrix is awesome with those little beads.

I laughed at mariocaseman's megaman 1-8 question, satoshi_matrix (and forte) are the biggest megaman fans on the site.

He sure is!

I've always wanted to give those a go, but I don't know what I'd do with them when I'm done LOL!  Maybe frame 'em?
