anything that came before the NES, I don't care what you say, the NES was the beginning of recognizable characters and graphics, on home consoles, at least as far as i'm concerned.

also anything for 80's computers, C64, Spectrum etc, just not worth owning IMHO.
anything for 90's computers, Amiga, Atari ST etc, just not worth owning IMHO.

I feel the same, minus Atari 2600, and I might get a Cheep Colecovition soon.

Well with any of them, I would buy them if they are cheep at a tag sale or whatever, but I would not actively seek them out online, or buy many games for them. I probably would not play them that much, I do not find many of the games that interesting.

I don't keep games in my collection just for the sake of owning them.

HERETIC!!! >:(

I should qualify this.  I have games that I haven't played in years or even at all yet, but I at least plan to get to them.  There are a couple perhaps that go against this rule (like maybe Final Fantasy 1 & II) that I own, but am not sure when if ever I will play them.  I do like to have complete sets of things.

So I guess this isn't a hard and fast rule.  I'll also keep games that I loved and I've beaten but likely won't touch again.  Those are for my (future) kids :D

I've prolly got 100+ games that I've never played or at least never played for any significant chunk of time (I'm talking like 10 minutes or less).  It's not because I bought them with no intention of playing, but when I worked new/used game retail, I picked up a LOT of games in a really short period of time.  And a lot of them were grabbed during the PS1 RPG explosion, so getting to all of them would have been really time consuming, as you can prolly imagine.  I don't know if I'll ever get to them at this point, and I'm not really that worried about it.  These days I collect far more than I play.  Playing for me has morphed into customizing EVERYTHING in the collection in some way, shape, or form.

Even so, I still only buy games that I plan on playing or at least would play.  I don't collect just for the sake of collecting.  I don't purchase high dollar rare items just because they're rare.  I don't try and fill my collection with filler just to have more crap on my shelves.  The only system that I want to have a complete collection for is the 64DD, and that's just because there are only 9 games for the system and I'm only down 2 (which will likely cost me around 700-800 to pick up at some point :( ).

I had a policy of NEVER purchasing sports games, but, as I get older, I find that Golf and Bowling games are great fun.  Also, FPS titles.  But, again, I have friends that insist on playing nothing but and before I knew it I was occasionally playing COD:MW2 a couple of years back on weekends with them (local split screen only, I don't play ANYTHING online).  So, save for games that I've played/owned and hated, I try not to predict that I will never buy a game that comes to market without ever having touched it.

Well, I could possibly make an exception to that rule for Mary Kate, Dora the Explorer, Miley Cyrus, and Barbie games :P

Whops hit enter,  ;D

But as I was saying, Some buys where fun, Some of the games I got from a old video store had their boxes and your only knowledge being the back of the box and the art, its fun to just see what you get. The most deceptive was Castlequest, The game is quite diferent from the box depiction. Another fun one was Karate Champ, I got it from Goodwill, and when I got home and was cleaning the games I got my friend called and wanted to come over and when he got here I hooked the NES up and went into 2 Player mode and the look on our faces when the one punch ended the round. And another was Robopon for GB, I got it from Gamestop and it had a long black cart an a weird name, and its basically Pokemon with robots.

I have the same policy about old systems actually. While I have some NES carts, and a (broken) NES Console, everything before the NES is irrelevant in terms of owning.

Also, SEGA systems... I had some good times with the Dreamcast back in the early 2000's, but once the Sonic Adventures were ported to Gamecube, I no longer had a reason to own one, and I still  don't. SNES and N64 are enough retro for me(Oh and Gameboy as well). I kinda wish I had gotten to play Sonic Jam back in the day, but it's moot now since I got the Mega Collection for Gamecube in 2002.

It's funny how the Gamecube basically makes the Genesis & Dreamcast pointless. Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure 1+2, Sonic Mega Collection(Which has ALL Sonic genesis games). Whatever the Gamecube didn't have, it was either ported/got a sequel to on Xbox, or in the case of Power Stone, a collection for PSP.

And if you own a Wii it basically makes the Gamecube pointless as well (minus the Game Boy Player).

Unless you're one of those unlucky saps who got a Wii without GC BC... :/

Luckily my Wii can play GC games(And is compatible with GC controls).

I've got "crap" games too, but I most likely got them in a lot or just years ago when I didn't know better.  But they probably make up less than 1-2% of my collection, so I tend not to worry about it too much ;)

I think Mario: Fun with Letters is my crappiest title.

Great with children though!
