Why exactly do SNES and N64 manuals not fit in new UGCs?

This.

They are not always a perfect fit -- games with thick manuals will make the case bulge a little bit, and the manual gets a very slight bend (nothing near a crease or anything that is in any way damaging) -- but for the most part, I think they fit just fine. All my manuals are stored with their games in the UGCs.

Yes, I've done the searches, but that's not the question I asked.

Let me try to be clearer. What exactly comes into contact with the back of the manual? Is it the cartridge itself, or the plastic ridges?

If it's the cartridge itself that touches the manual, then there's nothing to be done, but if it's the plastic ridges in the case, then those can be sanded down to allow more room for the manual. See what I'm trying to get at here?

I've never held a UGC so I need to figure this out before I go dropping cash on large orders.

Harp00nX:

The manuals are too tall so they catch the edge of the case as they are set in a bit from the far edge on the outside of the case (the cart bit is fine mostly). This is how they fit nicely in the cover sleeve which is how I keep them as they are kept very flat this way, although some euro manuals are massively thick and look extremely bulged due to them being multi-language.

There is a picture (located below)

The manual does not "fit" inside the case when it is closed.  It is '-' too long to fit =X.  You can get it to fit inside the case if you bend the manual into a |C|, but its bending the manual.  You can see in the picture it's just long enough to be a problem.

If it is hollowed out, I do believe it will fit, but now the game is loose.  So the best bet is to place the manuals on the back inside the sleeve
